A good book that I'd recommend is Don Quixote. It is about a somewhat stereotypical knight's tale that goes amiss and ends up becoming tragegy/comedy at every turn. But the real twist is that the Knight learns that he is being written about as the story progresses, thus meta-commentary from the knight (who goes by the titular name) as well as the author ensues.

I was watching a video about this on the recent movie Deadpool, which discussed its philosophy (Wisecrack, I believe the channel was) and it described that there is an issue with meta-commentary, intertextuality and satire. Because sooner or later, the meta-commentary will have its own meta-commentary and then it has its own, etc., it becomes a cancerous ad infinitum endless spiral loop majigger.

Not to mention, often times the commentary is satirical in nature or references other literature/art, thus creating intertextuality, which I'd argue is one of the worst things ever. This is because it encourages notice of another work, when in my opinion you should have your full attention grasped onto the current piece you are looking into rather some other, older piece that might be better because it is sold as such and confirmation bias ensues.

As for satire, well, it does nothing, it's just pointing stuff out. At first that may seem useful, but what's the use in pointing out world hunger if you can't do anything to personally stop it? You might come off as hypocritical if you preach about world hunger but don't go on a mission to help poor haitian children, or just local hungry in your area.

Or satire on the idiocy of the world. That's about as subjective and thus as useless as any other satire. Thus, satire is just cancer. Half the time it comes off as pretentious and self-absorbed/heavily opinionated.

Yet when some satire pops up with a pretentious message, with a seemingly abstract theme a lot of people eat it up without realizing they're getting the same schematics from another art with a different message that is half-the-time un-recognized and hypocritical.

Thus is the issue with memes. And an issue with the warlight forums all in general.

This was meta btw

This comment chain proves my point.

Memes serve to the detriment of humor and intelligence. You replace individual expression and originality with continuity and repetition, and nothing of value is created and it only intoxicates the value that was there if any.
