You can just call me an honorary member. I seriously won't be on the forums for long. But while I'm here, I have been going through the hidden threads and uv'ing. It's a bit frustrating, though, as many of the threads that managed to get resurrected were just dv'd again.
I think it might be worth your while to write down some tips-n-tricks for people so more people will know the best/quickest ways to tackle the problem. Also, a kind of 'strategy guide' for how to determine if a post is actually non-spam or non-troll.
For example, Fissel makes many threads with seemingly innocuous questions. If they were just one-off threads, I wouldn't call them spam, but since it's the same person just posting inane questions over and over again, I think there's a good case to be made that in order to curtail the spammer him/herself, you will probably need to treat seemingly-innocuous posts by said spammer as spam, until the spammer stops spamming them.
Having this kind of strategy collected together in some document (or a post, possibly) would help to keep everyone playing the same strategy together, making this project more effective.
You might want to think of making this into a clan, just to be able to post about it and collect info/strategies into posts without polluting the general forums. If you can't afford it yourself (I think it's only like $15 or something), you might ask a member to sponsor it. Unfortunately, I'm not able to sponsor it myself, though. Also, I'm good for brainstorming like in this comment, but I won't be able to put these kinds of documents/posts together myself. These are just my brainstorming suggestions for your consideration. (BTW: You can allow people to join a clan with alts in case their main account already has a clan associated to it.)
Thank you for the suggestions. However, I do not want to commit this to a clan right now. If the problem continues, I will incorporate it into another one of my plans: a Discworld clan. I would only do this if I found enough Discworld fans, and if I got round to making a decent Discworld map.
Our mission is to upvote every nonspam thread. However, there is one thread which I believe is more urgent than others, and it is https://www.warlight.net/Forum/185308-received-vulgar-ad Whoever downvoted this thread, shame on you! I literally can't see any reason why anyone would think it is bad.
Jamal, I'm a far leftist, and I also value freedom of speech, in the spirit of Voltaire. I have uv'd several posts from right-wing posters because regardless of whether I agreed with them or not, they were/are legit topics. I've even uv'd some of Fissel's posts that were genuinely non-spam, even though I consider him/her a persistent spammer/troll.
If more people were principled in their voting, the forums would dramatically increase in quality, IMO. That especially includes protecting controversial but meaningful topics from getting dv'd into obscurity. But it also necessarily means keeping meaningless noise to a minimum.
