The Best Video Games (2016)

According to me, take it or leave it. I'm also announcing my name change from "Mr. Eli Locatelli" to Azlo, and becoming more active in the forum's as I retire from Diplo/Roleplay in 2017.

So, best PS4 games thus far. (with some descriptions from TR)

(Honorable Mentions: Battlefield 1, Lego Dimensions, Tom Clancy, Project Cars)

5. Star Wars Battlefront
The new epidemy of Star Wars games, I mean, besides KOTOR. But it's the potential of EA/Dice's promised four or five new SW games that really excite. The graphics and online gameplay is incredible, and its my favourite game to play, mostly because I'm a SW fan. Can't wait until Death Star DLC.

4. Uncharted 4
Some say that the day of the big-budget, linear, narrative-lead blockbuster is over, but Naughty Dog doesn’t seem to have had the memo.
This is a huge action game crammed with dazzling spectacle and awesome set-pieces, yet one that treats its characters and their history with respect. Thrilling, moving, exhilarating and ambitious, A Thief’s End is a storming climax to the Nathan Drake saga. If it’s the last of its breed, it’s one of the best. 3. Dark Souls III
Journey to the world of Lothric and enter the harsh and brutal world of Dark Souls once again with this third entry. While it may not quite reach the heights of its predecessors, it's still undoubtedly one of the best video games on the market, and acts as a somewhat compilation album of the Souls series. Players will meet familiar foes and some terrifying old faces along the way as well as some devastating new enemies. Lothric is a beautifully-realised world and will mystify and unnverve in equal measure.

2. Fallout 4
I've been waiting so long for Fallout 4 it feels like an apocalypse could have been and gone by now.
But thankfully, it was worth the wait.
Fallout 4 might not be the best game of the year, but it introduces you to a strange, beautiful and rich world full of stories to unravel.
There’s plenty to do in the Wasteland, including base building, crafting and plenty of customisation and companions.
If there’s a game that’s going to keep you busy over the winter period, it’s got to be Fallout 4.

1. No Man's Sky
(I can't wait to get!)
Easily one of the most ambitiously anticipated titles of 2016, No Man's Sky gives you the oppurtunity to explore over 18 quintillion planets as you journey to the centre of the galaxy. You're a single explorer in a vast, endless space with nothing but your ship and curiosity to guide you.

Everything you discover can be given a unique identity, rewarding you with credits that can be used to gather resources, upgrade your ship and jump to different star systems. There is simply nothing like No Man's Sky out there in 2016, and it's definitely worth checking out.

So hey, not everyone will agree with this, but that's ok. We debate and critique this until we have the Warlight master list!

Yup.

You guys are missing the point....3 out of the 5 games on this list were overhyped. I haven't played Dark Souls 3 or Uncharted 4 but I'd bet they were overhyped too. They all suck....

Just because its mainstream doesn't mean it sucks. Fallout 4 and Uncharted 4 were really great .

It can easily mean they are overhyped. Call of Duty is always overhyped yet it's still mainstream. Prehaps I shouldn't have used the word "suck" but they were overhyped. They might have been good games in their own right but a lot of people I know would say they failed to really deliver. Can't say that for Dark Souls but I can for the other 4.

1. Uncharted 4
No one is on Naughty Dog's level of presentation and storytelling in videogames.

2. Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain
Few games are as interconnected as this. Every system benefits the others; it's a game you where if you get bored doing one thing you can do something else and still contribute to your army. Plus, the game is so damn fun to play.

3. Resogun
This is gameplay perfection.

4. Diablo 3
One of the only 'couch co-op' games of this gen that isn't hampered by it. The depth of its loot system is proof enough of why blizzard is top of its class for ARPGs.

5. Transistor
A simple tactical RPG that gains momentum into a pretty deep game. Socketing functions into other functions (even duplicates of the same function) make your adventure so varied. Beautiful art, music, and story too.

6. The Wolf Among Us
Telltale's best game. It's a story where your choices are to protect others, and unravel a 'illuminati'-like mystery, at the behest of sacrificing your image. The more and more you get closer to your goal, the less the townsfolk believe in you and the local government protecting them.

7. Wolfenstein The New Order
Rarely do FPS games have an engaging story that is motivation enough to propel you through it. While it's vibe is familiar to those who watched Inglorious Bastards, it's depth to the characters, and willingness to have soft and tender moments make its story one of the best in the genre. The gameplay is top notch too.

8. Farcry 4
Partially solves open world games 'verticality problem,' and hits the sweet spot of that type of game too. Not as dense as Witcher, not as sparse as metal gear.

9. Infamous First Light
It takes power set fans loved the most from Second Son, and enhances it. Then it throws you into a highscroce chasing thrill ride, that's simply a blast.

10. Until Dawn
A great non-linear story, that's best played as a "how would I direct a horror movie" simulator. That girls a bitch? Have her do something stupid and the killer gets to her. Any character can die, and they all can live.

Honorable mentions include Woah Dave!, The Bit Trip, Super Stardust Ultra, Super Timeforce Ultra, Life Is Strange, and Fallout 4.

Notable games I have not played enough of to judge are Doom, Mordor, Dragon Age, Witcher.

Thanks for reading

@Gen Fallout 4 was super well received by long time fans and new fans alike, I don't know what world you've been living in...

-No Mans Sky has been having issues so I give you that one, it could have earned Game of the Year but then flopped.
-Battlefront has had a let down with no offline modes and pricey Seasons Pass, however, the game is getting better with every DLC, and was a very good start, beating expectations-in top 10 best sellers of 2015.
-Uncharted 4 Ive only seen gameplay but I really think it deserves its spot on the list. Its a solid franchise and the fourth installment is really great-and well received.
- Dark Souls 3 is pretty great if you're into that genre.

Overall, I think my list is biased, but I did state that. However, all those games are bestsellers and well recieved overall.

Im with Bane regarding his list mostly. Disapointed Fallout doesn't make his list but super happy Wolfenstein did. Damn, I forgot to mention Farcry, IT is super awesome and I cant wait to get it. Witcher is great. Bane, should I get Resogun, is it out for PS4?

Bane, PM me your recommendations?

not sure if troll or serious post...

battlefront is a complete ripoff compared to price

no man's sky is probably the biggest scam of the century.

fallout 4 and dark souls 3 are okay, not deserving to it's hype but they are good games still.

idk about uncharted 4.

5) Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

The zombies mode is still good enough to carry it's shit multiplayer, just as per usual from the franchise. Co-op campaign and weird gamemodes make it fairly enjoyable.

4) Grand Theft Auto 5

One gen old, still a masterpiece, and still being updated with content. Dreamy amounts of freedom, not as grindy as most games, and one of the best places to fuck about with people.

3) Overwatch: Origins Edition

The PS4 version of Overwatch brings us the *joy* of playing without the worst parts of the game: The sad goons who keep spamming chat, and mouse cursor controls (heresy in an FPS). Biggest flaw? Overpriced. VERY overpriced. But it's being updated, so yay?

2) Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends

LU BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

1) Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires

LU BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU WITH STRATAGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMS

Price is all relative to the individual. I have no problem spending $60 on tons of games. But if money is more tight, you do have to make that value assessment. Read reviews, figure out if the game is gonna be the next year of your life (like MGSV).

When I judge a game (a game I have actually played, not heard about or watched a video of) I don't take price into factor. While consumerism creates art (no one would make these games for free,) it does hinder it.

@z

I play overwatch on pc, as all competitive fps games should. Mouse and keyboard are objectively superior for accuracy in that genre.

What's the fun in that?

If aiming is harder for everyone, the game's less annoying and takes more skill. Sounds more fun than point-and-click-gg.

Analog controls are SO much more interesting for aiming than a cursor.

I don't take price into factor.

I often do because there is a risk of me not enjoying as much as I would enjoy two cheaper games, for one. Overwatch on the Ps4 for example is around 1.8x the price of PC OW. So that's a big minus. Thank god for sales.

mouse and keyboard is objectively easier to aim and are more accurate. There is no debate.
