Hi everyone,

as you know the random warlight distribution is like : A - BB - AA etc.. Furthermore Warlight decide who will have his first pick, so who will be A or B. However in fact the A - BB - AA - BB system change a lot of things.

For example this game: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=11880354
In this game my pick 4 was East US and Milfran pick 3's was East US too. Nevertheless i take the pick 3 of Milfran with my pick 4.
Don't be mistaken I am not here to complain about my loose, i am just here to ask some explanation.

Another example: https://www.warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=11847646
In this game Kaerox have got his 1 - 2 - 5 and Sultan his 1 - 2 - 4. The pick 3 of Sultan was taken by the pick 5 of Kaerox. Am I the only one who see something is wrong?

Let me explain my thoughts,
first of all there are a lot of example but these two are enough to express my astonishment. In these two games i only see that the will and the strategy of the player was not respected.

In the first game if i chose my pick 4 on East Us it was because i predicted he would pick 3 on East US and counter it. So in a logical situation Milfran should have got his 1 - 2 - 3 and me my 1 - 3 - 5 but in fact I have got my 1 - 3 - 4 and Milfran have got his 1 - 2 - 4. With my pick 4 on East US i didn't think he could counter it but he counter me like if I played my pick 3 on East US.

In the second game i can not speak instead of Sultan, but it is obvious that the fact he didn't have his 3 cause of kaerox's pick 5 change a lot in the game and disrespect the both pick strategy of kaerox and sultan.

So I conclude that the A - BB system is unpredictable and sometime go against the strategy of the player, i would like to know why the system is not A - B - A - B - A - B etc

Bye

seeing that the first pick usually is the best pick, it is only fair that the next two picks are given to the other Player. it might even happen that 2nd and 3rd pick combined are stronger than the first pick.

With that System no Player gets a really big Advantage from first pick. If it was as you suggested: A B A B A B etc Player A would clearly have an Advantage on this game

Hello

as you know the random warlight distribution is like : A - BB - AA etc..

Maybe you are looking at it from the wrong direction. It's better to look at it as AB - BA - AB. With this little tweak, you see that player B gets compensated for moving second in the first round by moving first in the second one.

In the second game i can not speak instead of Sultan, but it is obvious that the fact he didn't have his 3 cause of kaerox's pick 5 change a lot in the game and disrespect the both pick strategy of kaerox and sultan.
I highly doubt that getting his pick number 5 was against Kaerox's picking plan.

besides the fact i do not agree with you that the way it is now makes it unstrategic, as getting outpicked can be considered in picking stage, the system you suggest does not solve the issue at all.

edit:
place
2A on 1B
4A on 2B
5A on 3B

5A will outpick 3B using your system

In the MIFRAN game, he picked like this:
  • Scandinavia
  • West Russia
  • East US
  • West US
  • Antarctica
  • Southeast Asia

You picked like this:
  • Antarctica
  • Scandinavia
  • East Russia
  • East US
  • West US
  • Australia

Going by ABBAAB, if MIFRAN gets first pick, you'd expect him to get Scandinavia, followed by you getting Antarctica and East Russia. Then he'd get West Russia and East US, followed by you getting West US.

If you get first pick, you would get Antarctica and he'd get Scandinavia and West Russia. Then you'd get East Russia and East US, and his last pick would be West US. This is exactly what happened, and precisely what you'd expect.

ABABAB is definitely worse than ABBAAB, since it gives a bigger advantage to whoever got the first pick. This is because A got first choice on their first pick, and B gets second choice. Then on their second pick, A gets first choice again, leaving B with the lesser pick, and this happens for each successive pick. In ABBABBA, A gets the "top" pick on the 1st pick and all odd picks, while B gets the "top" pick on the 2nd and all even picks. A still gets more "top" picks, but it's at least fairer this way.

Thx all for your answer,
I understand now, this system is not the best system but it's the best we can have...

You lost to Mifran off play as well, not merely picks. I'd go East Russia there, then AA, then E US. E US is heavily thwarted by Central America, East Russia has no obvious counter other than Indonesia, and finishing it first allows you to beat the opponent to Japan while still finishing Antarctica turn 3.

You had intel on Scandi, and thus track his expansion turn by turn, and should have known when you needed to hit Omsk.

I think too often people write games off as being "lost on picks". That game was quite posibly winnable with slightly better play.
