I have mixed feelings. On one hand, we have been able to keep the trolls under control ( Kinda anyway ) but on the other, a lot of decent threads that we could have had some fun with have disappeared. And there's also that very real possibility that some idiot with a high level will turn troll himself or just start downvoting the threads of people he doesn't like. Thoughts?
With people like Fissel around still intentionally spamming, I'm beginning to think that the forum will require a phase where anything remotely spammy or trolly will need to be buried. It will result in a lot of false-positives, yes, but if it ends up starving the trolls and spammers, it might be worth it. Eventually, once things calm down, OT might become healthy again and interesting conversations might be had once more.
I still stick by the idea of the signal-to-noise ratio as a very good way to decide what should be up/downvoted, but essentially what I'm saying is that I think there's currently just way too much noise being added on a daily basis, and that needs to be calibrated first, before you can start trying to cultivate signal again.
