Lizard is one of the most disjointed albums I've ever listened to. The only saving grace is Jon Anderson singing on their side two "epic." Gordon Haskell sounds like he's about to choke on all the crap sitting in his throat. I'll give Cirkus credit for sounding nice, but apart from that everything else makes me cringe (besides Prince Rupert Awakes).

EDIT: I completely forgot about the lyrics too. Even Yes makes more sense than the pile of garbage Sinfield thought would be adequate for the music. Absolutely disgusting.

And Red one of the worst? Try Islands or SABB. Red is certainly far from the worst.


I've listened to both Renaissance and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, and while they're both good in their own unique way, I would not personally include them on my Top 15/16 list. Feel free to make your own. Oh wait, no you can't because you got banned.

@ps, two of the albums (We Like It Here and Mockroot) were made in the last two years.

Also a couple of bands on this list are still active after 40-something years releasing new material. That being said, most of it sucks.

All the genres I listen to (Rock, Jazz, Classical, and any other subgenre under those three main branches) are not as popular anymore. So I assume you're not talking about recent music in general, but rather mainstream recent music. And you can break it down into two simple catagories: pop and electronic. Pop is something I don't bother with at all save for Michael Jackson and maybe 1-2 others (Off the Wall is a great album, I'd probably put it in my personal top 20 if I were to continue this list).

Since you make electronic music, I assume you're talking about that when you say "recent music." If not then this entire post is going to be for nothing, but whatever.

There are three main reasons why I chose to not include that genre on my list:

a.) I'm sure a lot of people on WL know the electronic genre very well (I've talked to many people who favor it as the primary genre of music they listen to). Therefore, the purpose of my list was to give people a selection of music different from what they usually listen to(with the exception of WYWH, Boston and maybe My Favorite Things for those familiar with Jazz). I also created this thread to get recommendations from people with music that I normally don't listen to as well.

b.) I'm basically not familiar or a fan of electronic music. I've heard some I really liked, some I thought was OK, and some I thought was downright awful. Which ties into point c.) -

c.) - As I grew up listening and playing Jazz, Classical and Rock (later on in a "band") I was inclined to continue listening and building up a taste reflecting that upbringing. I'm very familiar with all three genres. Naturally, this entire list is dominated by Rock, Jazz or any sub-genre that falls into those two categories. I have no preference for Classical other than Rachmaninoff or MacDowell. That being said, I'm open to any other musical genre not reflected by my personal list if other people have a similar passion for their music as I do for mine.

@Officer Friendly, I've listened to all of Jethro Tull's discography. Minstrel in the Gallery is pretty good, I definitely agree with that as a recommendation. And Godbluff is a fantastic album, it's better than VDGG's Pawn Hearts IMO. I've only heard Gong and Magma in name only, but I've heard good things about them so I think I'll try both out. I'll be sure to check out your other recommendations as well.
