This is a suggestion I already made here and there, although I don't know how to solve it in a fairly easy way for Fizzer. The thing is, a game tree in the narrow frame of a tourney lobby is so hard to browse that there must be a better display to show it. A change of orientation (large bracket to the top, then going downwards) may be a nice fix to begin with, if it's not too difficult to implement.
I'm asking if somebody has a better idea, so that we may bring some clean suggestion to UserVoice, not even considering it a kind of priority in any way for the development of the game. As a comparison, I'd consider for myself that a dynamic ranking table in round Robin tourneys would be already something more important, and I mentioned it in UV (but, well, I know I know, there are so many ideas to make an even better WL than it already is... ^^).
Best regards.

Instead of one big setup, why not cut it up in smaller groups?
No one has to worry about where another opponent is in the grand scheme of it, unless they have to play in them in the immediate future.
So, instead of 256 players in one line, cut it up in 16 groups of 16.
Eventually each group of 16 will have 1 winner.
Then you crate one new group of 16, out of which comes the champion.
Sarge.

Or it would be very practical to be able to scroll through it, although I guess it must be hard to implement, or it would already be the case...

i like how it is now, but it makes no sense at all for the widest part to be on the narrowest side of the screen. theres no simpler way to display it than the tree even though that isn't perfect (especially in huge tournaments).

@x : Maybe you have a way to move in the tree with an easy way, for with the mouse scroll or the zoom buttons, it's really hard to know where you are if there is a wide bracket, and extremely touchy to zoom to the top or bottom of it. Even seeing in which game you play is hard (see the last 512 player tourney).

How about make the tree fork at the Champion?
Like this :

It should shorten the list by 50 percent.

thats a good point sarge.
i dont know mian. maybe if it was possible to select an individual player/team and highlight or isolate their entire tree branch it would be easier to navigate and find games using that thing.

Well I feel really silly now.
I discovered only now you can mouse-drag the tree to browse it... Well this helps a lot then...
Gee, I chose the right momentto learn it XD
Sorry then, this question is still relevant, seems to me, maybe then no so critical though...

I also play at Itsyourturn.com, a turn based board game website, where they have dozens of tournaments each week.
They use a group system, where 4 or 5 players are competing against each other in that group. Those with the highest points go on to the next round. And so on, till there is only one winner.
what that kind of system work here, too?

only in tournaments with a small number of players. i dont think that kind of tournament would be very popular either, people vastly prefer knockout to round robin in general.

To elaborate:
At the board game website, there are groups made of 4 players.
Each player plays two times with each other member in that group.
So, a group of 4 players gives 6 games to each member.
Winner will be the one with the most points and will move on to the next round.
As these are board games, it makes sense to have two games: Black / White. You start or you don't start.
----
Here, that is less of a problem.
A group can consist of any amount of players, with each player getting to play against the others in a one on one environment. It will mean you get play games simultaneously in each round. You will be on here a bit more often than in the current settings, but I doubt that that is a bad thing.
Yes, it needs to different coding in here, and I don't envy the developers. :)

yeah, its like the group stage of a football (soccer) tournament except every round. like i said, what youre suggesting is a mix of regular tournaments and round robins, but i dont know how popular it would be. maybe the solution to that problem is to let the creators customise tournaments in that way. but im still not sure anyone wants that enough to justify the work.

A "league" system, with divisions and a system of promotions-demotions between them, would be of great importance especially for non advanced players. A beginner complained a bit recently in an auto-game saying that the game lacked a way for him as a beginner not to choose between beginners, or intermediate players, and a player who played over 1000 games. If there were a league system with levels, anyone could join and potentially meet players of similar level when playing in that system at least (definitely not excluding plays with better or weaker players, which is very relevant as far as the learning dynamics needs unbalanced games at least once in a while, as a teaching process).

I also meant that most often, players won't create a custom game to filter according to their wishes (they should, but still). Just that there is no automatic way to find such games, and a league system could be a very convenient way and improvement.
