In some other popular games, I've noticed in communities that they have memes imbedded within the games that have arisen sheerly from people playing the game.
We have meme threads, but that's not the same as the famous "?" Seen in games like Dota 2 or "360 noscope" in an FPS.
So how do we go about memeing warlight? Why should we even?
We should because it is great for building community.
We do already have memes of sorts, as they are in-jokes, but the only major one instantly applicable to a game rather than the forums is roadmap.
FFA : A - Let's team up and kill. C B - Not on my immediate roadmap
We can go about memeing warlight through overhyping certain highlights. Example, a player makes 4 successful 3v2's in a row at 16% luck one could say "LOOK AT THE WOMBO COMBO PLAY BY SCRUBKIN223! HE'S GONNA TOSS IT OUT OF THE BALL PARK AND COMPLETELY OBLITERATE! That's gonna be another win" "It's like they say buddy, he wins who has RNGesus watching over him"
One issue with warlight memeing is the impossibility of completely game changing moves. If someone is at 5 income and the other is at 26 and it's 8 turns in, the game is probably over and nobody is gonna get anything out of it.
Because of this, you lack these authentically crazy or impressive plays. That's not to understate skill, it's just that it's boring that you lose 1 repositioning and a bonus is broken and you'll never climb out of the sinkhole.
These are mostly guidelines and suggestions really, i am not asking at all I'd say, I'm making a sort of open letter on how the community could improve in a game related sense.
Clearing up : What i meant on overhyping is that if you just have casters or people saying these flamboyant things then memes just naturally spawn out of it.
Competitive warlight is like chess. A great move is something that we all sit and quietly admire whilst stroking (real or imaginary) goatees. A truly great move does not evoke shouting or excitement, nor is it visually impressive to the non-initiated. Anything we have that is relatable to the outside world is too generic to be meaningful.
