I'm getting sick losing games because of encountering 2 or more players in the first 3 rounds.
Whether it's in a team game or FFA, in the first few rounds the person who comes up against 2 players (whether they're on the same team or just joined in a temporary alliance) will always lose. There's just no escaping from it from what I can see. The only way out is if the other team is awful and not communicating properly with each other.
Especially on the world map. It seems to be the most imbalanced map ever, especially when using random starting places. The starting places give a real indication as to what the first few moves of the game will be, and the first few moves always seem to be the decider anyway.
Just getting frustrated tbf!

try the medium earth map, it was created because the earth map's bonuses were too unbalanced for starting locations.
and often times there is little you can do to win in auto distribution.. It's most beneficial for multiple people to go through you, and you are unlucky enough to be in a position to be unable to hold them off...
personally I prefer auto distribution for the random aspect, but alot of people prefer manual distribution for reasons similar to your complaint..

In a FFA, you're pretty much screwed. In a team game, I have found that sometimes I can keep the 2 opponents busy long enough chasing after me and my team mate can grow unfettered and become insurmountable. Some maps, like Europe, are better for this than others.

in an ffa, you can try making a truce. click on the players name in the bottom left panel and then private chat. cards can help you in team games, they can airlift to you, you can abandon and make your opponent lose a lot of armies. also, you can choose territories in various parts of the map so if one choice is bad because of opponents' positions, you can give up on it and start anew somewhere else.
