Coz it is very hard to win more than 15 games in a row on ladder. Lost game means lost no1 on ranking so he just not risk to do that. Slow play increases winning chance coz your opponent might forget about something in a game, it also gives you fresh look on board and some good ideas always comes after couple hours or a night. My best moves on warlight comes to me after a good night of sleep i don't know why but its true, i wake up and i just know what to do :)... not that i have nothing else to do than thinking about warlight 24/7... shit, i am addicted to this game :(

That's funny Michael. It's the same with me. First thoughts are simple and unsurprising. After some hours in the night I come up with the correct ideas. But it's actually while lying awake pondering my moves and not after a good night's sleep....Warlight pumps so much adrenaline, it's like strong coffee to me. Wide awake.

Why cant people just play the game because they enjoy it? Surely thats how you started.

Yeah. I am also not very good at real-time thinking and playing. I need to stare at the screen for three entire days, get two nights of good sleep, get a few massages, watch my diet (more lean meats, take vitamins, eat vegetables that increase my strategic thinking and memory), and refrain from sex or alcohol whenever an important turn arises...

My greatest joy is when I know the guy I am playing only spends five minutes to take his turn. I know I have the advantage because sometimes even when I make love I am thinking about my moves in Warlight. I treat WL as a job. In other facets of life I am mediocre. But in WL I am a general!

I am with Longhouse on this. I started off playing for fun, then I was only worried about becoming a great plaeyr, and lost the fun in the game. I have rediscovered the fun, while managing to continue to play at a high level. I truly feel I enjoy the game more now than I ever have in the past, which is the most important thing about warlight.

This thread goes from TeddyFSB's ladder to manner's ladder then to Pepper's mocking response and now jay lectures us on his playing practices as we are all so eager to know.

@Pink: I've been busy last month or so and have played most of my games slow. Also, like Michael explained, I don't have much incentive to play too fast as 1 loss means big rating decrease.

I've slowed down a lot too. Ironically, despite being ranked at #1 on both ladders, I feel I am playing at the worst level since rejoining WL. A bunch of losses is probably coming up:( It's hard to accept losses, I look at the position, don't see a good outcome, and leave it, hoping I'll see a way out the next day.

I would send my heartfelt sympathy to Teddy and Timmy, but seeing as I haven't managed to get past 35 as of yet, I'll save it for myself :P
