Updates
  • Rewrote the veto module to support the new features. I also had to manually mess around with the database to make it compatible with the new changes. If you notice any problems with your existing vetoes or get invited to a vetoed template, please do not accept the game and notify me instead.
  • Add a new page for MDL statistics! All the charts below can be seen on this page.

  • Add a new chart for Rating distribution on MDL. You can now track Nth percentile ratings. The slope of the curve is really close to what I would have expected on MDL. The 50th percentile is rated 1502.



  • Add a chart for tracking number of games finished every day. We can see the impact of new features, announcements & holidays and if it leads to more activity on MDL!



  • Add a chart of total games over time.



  • Add a bar chart for vetoes per template. This only considers vetoes from players active on the ladder.

Noteworthy Observations
  • The Multi-day ladder reaches a new high of 89 players! :)
  • MotD has been busy...he matches AI's record for longest win streak of 16 and sets a new record of 1909
  • Njord suffers a bit of a fall; 6 wins and 4 losses drops him 59 points
  • Koopa Troopa rises 81 points to temporarily break into the top 10! Congrats!
  • Lucien Müller plays an amazing 22 games (11-11) but sadly drops 11 points
  • SuperGamerzChannel goes 3-0 and rises 31 points
  • TribalWars goes 3-0 and rises 28 points

Update
Added the ability to search on tables across MDL. Thanks to TheRiverStyxie for the idea!
This enables some cool scenarios like:
  • Find all my common games with a specific player



  • Find Games played for any player with Master in their name



  • Find #Wins for all clans with "pe" in their name



  • Look for all of MoD's games on French Brawl

MDL takes yet another big step! You can now get a gold trophy for holding #1 on MDL. You must finish 10 games while you're #1. If you lose the rank, your counter resets and you try again ;)

Thanks a ton to Fizzer for agreeing to this(and the terms).

Only three players have managed this feat(congrats!!) in the 7 months of MDL's existence. Who will be the next?

I don't agree with Ollie, because I think the best promotion was the Clan Leaderships because right after it the number of active players were increased by 30%!
This shiny gold trophy is motivation only for the best players, and MDL had never problem with the partipitacion of the best players but the enough avarage players, and seems the Clan Leaderships solve that too.

@MotD: you passed the 5000th games, and nothing special? :P
I mean, besides the many very cool updates you did recently :D

  • Fix the game message on Strat ME and Atlantis. Thanks to Njord for reporting this.

  • Fix a bug in the Elo rating algorithm.

    The Elo rating algorithm works in the following manner (detailed explanation @ https://metinmediamath.wordpress.com/2013/11/27/how-to-calculate-the-elo-rating-including-example/):
    If p1 and p2 play game g1 and p1 wins, the net result is
    r1 = r1 + Elo(r1, r2, win)
    r2 = r2 + Elo(r1, r2, loss)

    Elo(r1,r2,result) is usually a number with a decimal component(ex - 23.79). To make it more presentable to users, I was rounding(floor) this decimal to an integer.

    When you have thousands of games, each game is a transaction which has an impact on the ratings of the two players involved. This rounding should be performed at the end just before presenting the rating to the user. I had a bug where I was performing this rounding operation after every transaction which led to slightly inaccurate results. This small rounding error kept accumulating for each player and leads to a noticeable reduction in their ratings. This has now been fixed and you will notice a slight bump in ratings of all players(had a bigger effect on those with high number of games).

    I made a spreadsheet of the old and new ratings for every active player on the ladder which can be found @ https://goo.gl/zhh5I8.

    Since this bug impacted all players in a similar fashion, the ratings were still fair relative to one another. However, this bug played a part in the deflation of ratings over time. You should now see a much more stable rating system! If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Thanks to Kezzo and Master Jz for noticing that ratings were dropping by a point or two randomly without games having been completed. I wouldn't have looked into this if they hadn't brought it to my attention.

Yeah we briefly hit 100 active players and crossed 5000 games too :)

This has been quite a productive month for MDL in terms of new features. So I'm just plugging away :p
I do have some plans for the end of month in terms of a live stream and some other announcements. We also have an ongoing poll to re-evaluate the templates used on MDL.

I realised that the "Top 10 days ranked" statistics in the leaderboard only show consecutive days.
For example if you are ranked #10 5 days, then drop out for a day and then you get in the top 10 again for 3 days, then your score on the leaderboard is 5 days.
Is it meant to be like that?

I realised that the "Top 10 days ranked" statistics in the leaderboard only show consecutive days.
For example if you are ranked #10 5 days, then drop out for a day and then you get in the top 10 again for 3 days, then your score on the leaderboard is 5 days.
Is it meant to be like that?
Yes. This is by design(if you hover over the info icon, it should say this as well). This is to encourage players to stay on the ladder for longer periods. If you leave or go on vacation, your counter resets and you try again ;)
