Site just went down for some minutes, and I was playing a realtime game. I reloaded the page frequently, so I guess the site had been up by at most 30 seconds by the time I was booted from my realtime game. My opponent must have been refreshing quicker than me and then just rushed in to boot me.

Now, I realise there is no rules against booting players, but I don't feel it's fair to be punished for the WarLight server to be down. In particular, I don't like my profile saying "booted once" when I've always met every deadline except this one when the whole site was down. Any chance of having this changed, or is this something I just have to suck up?

Of course, I blacklisted this petty opponent and advise everyone else to do the same.

I blacklisted him, as I agree with your point of view. Note though that I don't play multiplayer games, so I don't know whether blacklisting someone has any actual effect on these players. I have been invited in two games so far, declined them both without hesitation.

@Death - I don't believe being blacklisted has any impact on the players status in Warlight or that it would have any tangible result to one who doesn't play multiplayer such as yourself. Did you get my message about a 0-luck game?

after trusting my oppents to not boot me after warlight went down, I got booted while making my moves. I learned that whoever gets back online and boots first win.

No, Richard, I didn't get any invitation. After I got the first invitation, I made a post on a thread, saying that I won't accept any invitations. Making a 0% luck game is not enough to convince me to play a multiplayer game. Someone else (named "Angel") sent me the second invitation and from then on I switched all notifications off, so I won't get any more invitations. Now as for blacklisting, I will keep it as a lever of pressure towards people who misbehave to me. It may give me no result, but I think I can use the action of blacklisting to show that a person is not behaving well. Since it isn't possible for others to view my blacklist (AFAIK), I am willing to announce the name of the player I am blacklisting each time. And since I don't want to play any multiplayer games, I don't care who blacklists me, so nothing stops me from trying to be fair. I 'd only be bothered if I wanted to play MP games.

If you go to multiplayer, there should be a game there with a note explaining my offer. Please check it out there rather than rehashing it here. I honestly think it would be of interest to you.

As for the blacklist, I am not aware of being able to see others but I am relatively new here and have yet to need a blacklist (other than adding Vostro).

Man, I love the blacklist! It's my favorite feature on here. That's how I keep the douches from playing with me :)

the best RT games, are MD games that you and the other person agree to play at the same time on.. then this issue never happens.. and if you guys decide it's real close and you need to eat/sleep/etc. there's already an implemented method.

Oops, this "Man, I love the blacklist" post isn't mine. Someone created an email with the same initial letters as mine (starts with "creep") and then created a duplicate account... Otherwise someone hacked into my own account. In either case, I am sure it can't be anyone else than Vostro.

Other notes about the duplicate account:

1)He has copied my bio.
2)He has copied my tagline.
3)The only obvious difference is in the stats.

Don't jump to conclusions as to who made the account. Although I agree that Vostro would be the Number One Suspect, it might be anyone stupid enough to think he can fool so active a community.
And although I also spell favourite with a **U**, it's not *the* correct way of spelling... American and British English, nowadays, are both mainstream.

Sorry for the problems you had Yeon. It is indeed unfortunately that sometimes we get boots for things outside of our control.

It's possible that your opponent wasn't affected by the hiccup at all depending on his location in the world.

In the end, I don't know of a way to fix these kinds of issues, except to de-emphasize the "number of times booted" figure, and instead direct people to look at the percentage of times booted. Everyone that plays real-time games will eventually run into a few boots they couldn't help, but as long as your percentage is below 2-3 I'm pretty sure nobody will ever hold it against you.

I got booted once when I joined a real-time game then my power went out. I know it's not fun :)

Thanks for the reply, Mr. Domenico. For the first part, I agree I stated my point in a rough way. This thing happens with me sometimes. I want to say something, I state it in a hurry and end up saying something slightly different. But I guess I 'm not the only one with a life to care about over here, am I? For the second part, let's leave that uncommented. I don't care about being "fashionable" or "mainstream" or anything like that.

Actually, I was at the same time connected to sites in US and Europe without problems, but apparently couldn't reach the Warlight site.

I wasn't booted the second I rearrived online, but about two seconds later. I know, because I decided to enter orders quickly (without thinking) and only got to click to start deploying before the boot. So my inclination is that he came back when I did.

If I knew this is how games are supposed to be played, perhaps instead of deploying, I should have gone for the boot menu myself... ;-)

Become a member. Can't see anyone being so dedicated to their trolling to be willing to shell out the $30 for membership.

@ Perrin: Yup, you are right, I hadn't thought of that early enough. But in a thread I started ("ANNOUNCEMENT") I am mentioning things he can't copy, such as join date. What do you think about that?

@ Richard Sharpe: Sorry, but I 've made it clear that I am not going to become a member. I 'll keep this game free for me. What's more, the easy way isn't always so reliable. Since we aren't sure whether this guy is willing to pay $30 just to make me look bad, I think I have to avoid the risk of wasting my own money for a troll. Let's clarify here... Fizzer has allowed for non-unique player names. That by no means he allowed such antics to occur in the past and nor does it mean he condones it. There is a considerable difference between those two things.

As for membership, I understand your position... I was merely pointing out the most obvious solution to the issue, that is all. I know in the past you spoke of desiring a 0% luck game so membership would not be without its benefits to you, however minimal they may be. Given your insistence on playing such a game I was surprised by your refusal of my offer.
