Liberalism (in the american sense bc yolo) isn't an economic stance but a moral stance. One can be liberal and anti-state => a libertarian and a social conservative is the opposite.
Conservatives are associated to capitalism and liberals to anti-capitalism because of the shitty democratic system that forces people to choose between two parties/sets of ideas.
