@Turnips: No, the territory you mentioned would remain fogged in that case.

Territory information is only shown in spectator mode if a player occupies it and the opponent occupies an adjacent territory.

So a frontline is shown. That limits the spectator heavily and produces a rather uninteresting real-time experience for the spec and they would gain very little watching it.

Split-screen would be much better, but that ofc can be abused as well.
