Can anyone offer me coaching for 1v1 games? I'm actually OK at team games but I'm seriously awful at world 1v1 games, like I lose 100% of the time. Even when I analyze the game at the end I can't see anything I obviously did wrong; my picks are generally for safe bonuses and so are the opponents and yet they always end up winning somehow. I need someone to tell me where I went wrong.

Play a few autogames. Even though your opponents will likely be terrible, post the game links here and someone will probably tell you what you do wrong.

your best way to improve is to analyse games history and think what you could have done better.

not only your own games, but also games from top ladder players.

we do this livestream event every so often called WGL where we analyse games happening on a realtime tournament, you can find the old recordings here:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjxyPjW-DeNUNWCqlOchKmibziGO4Kofr

if you post on the forum specific games with specific questions there will certainly be people discussing it.

once you reach the level required for the realtime ladder, that's also a decent source of competitive games (more competitive then the random auto-game atleast).

Go through these guides; once you get the basics of the game correctly, start seeing ladder games and try to reason out the picks as well as the moves. Don't worry about the stats and start playing more and find out who are good players and try to play with/against them regularly and ask them what you're doing wrong.
Go through forums for discussions about strategies(picking/playing posts are many). Auto games are ok for beginners and sometimes you get really good players too.

You could apply for WarLight training school - https://www.warlight.net/Forum/188126-warlight-training-school-goes-public.

What level do you have to be for the real-time ladder? I was looking yesterday and it looked like the only way to get on was to buy the "mega strat pack" I think it was. Is that true?

gilead: don't know what the level is, there was a list of level unlockables somewhere but i'm too lazy to search for it now, should be on the wiki. what i do know is that you can unlock it without buying anything, just need to level up enough.

edit - looked it up now:

it might seem a lot but if you play coin games and team games you get more points and level up faster.

also ladder games give more points, so once you're in one ladder, you also level up faster to reach the others.

Cool. I just dove into a couple team tournaments with SOA and also a couple others. I guess it is good timing getting into those. Thanks again.

Join a clan environment of players who are in a similar position to you in development. People underrate this tip, Basic psychology lesson here, You are more likely to go through something when you have other people involved then you are singularly.

I recommend joining a clan that can cater to your needs.

Outlaws , 101st , GGr , Hydra ,M'Hunters and Apprentice my first thoughts.

My opinion for you is to consider joining M'Hunters they are the best a newbie can join and I think their open recruiting policy is why they are so strong today at the core. Hydra also offer a very similar experience and should be strongly considered if you want a community experience.

101st/GGr would be an outside option if you are going for the hardcore strategy experience. You should take this if all you want to do is improve. Kind of a personal trainer type of thing.

Outlaws the clan I'm in charge is a possibility. Probably more for the mesiu!-high skilled players, Though I'm a great believer in recruiting players with high potential early rstgher then later and can be persuaded if a ambitious newbie comes along and has decent skill.

If you do decide you want to join a clan , Make it informed and ask around. Don't rush into any decisions because a good clan leader is willing to wait because the clan market nowadays is not a lot. Meaning clans have to be patient. at least the good ones ;)

This advice can apply to anyone.
