I didn't like that Australia pick and that's pretty much what did you in. Moving that 4 pick to Africa would have helped. If you stopped his production in Africa, and also you knew he had Scan, you probably would have won that game. That was because you had enough expansion in Asia to get a good income base down.
I would have gone for the direct route to Scan before Africa as it would have taken less time. Realistically he wouldn't have gone for Australia if you weren't there. You would have seen more expansion in Africa from him and then a big push through Iran. It also didn't help that he knew you had India/E China as well. I would say to stick with it (it was better than the last game you posted). If you want some good practice, go through the ladder and just start challenging the top 15-20 to 1v1 games and you'll get some good lessons.

First of all, I'm not really that good at Warlight, but I'll do my best at giving you tips and stuff.
You're picks weren't too bad, IMO.
At turn 5 you used all of your armies to try to defend Australia, but if the enemy is over powering you like that, it probably would have been best to give up. The 10 armies in Malaysia were to your advantage though after they took Australia.
For turn 8 I think you shouldn't of gone into the Philippines if you knew how powerful your enemy was.
In turns 9 and 10 you were still trying to expand to the Middle East when they had quite a few armies right by you. I would of expanded to East Russia or Central Russia instead, while still defending.
Overall, I think Lotus won partly because they got better starting spots then you, because Antarctica and Africa are good places to start I think.

Well thanks for the advice guys. Ive watched the history a few times now and i understand what you guys are saying. In the middle east i was mostly just trying to take land so i could keep getting cards. not so much for the bonus. but i could have just went straight forward from the get go and done the same thing.

keep in mind that to get a card...you only need to capture ONE(1) territory. So taking more just for the sake of cards would be pointless. I think a rematch with Flying Lotus would help. He seems to be a stand up guy and can give you pointers as you play and afterwards

Typhoon, I cannot agree with you that blockading the Philippines was a bad idea. After all, by blockading the Philippines, Flying Lotus was stopped from entering East China for a few turns.. That helped Dionysus by allowing them to not have to focus on defending East China for a few turns, until Flying Lotus captured Japan on Turn 12, which allowed Lotus to enter East China and break Dionysus's bonus in the area.

Dion your picks in the second game where better than the first, good improvement. However, spreading out picks is key, as much as possible. Although there were good territories to be taken in africa, i wouldnt have had so many there.
And to be honest practice makes perfect :)

I'm not the best 1v1 (as my stats show :P), but I tend not to go for North Africa as it's a 3 bonus that needs a total of 5 territories to complete. My understanding is that the more desirable bonuses at the start are only the ones where the bonus is outweighed by 1 capture territory (Scan - 3 bon, 4 cap, C.Amer - 3 bon, 4 cap, etc, etc.)
Also in the first game, the turn where you lost Australia was the turn where you gained more income. I thought this was the turning point. If you can get a sense of how much income your opponent has then you can try to predict whether you're going to be overrun. You could have captured a neutral in OZ, sparing your armies while keeping a foothold there. This not only splits your opponent's attention, while denying him the bonus, but also slows his growth down elsewhere. Flipside, it does the same for you but then you planned for that and can act accordingly.
Just my thoughts.
Cheers
