Is there a way to download an existing map to my local machine. I'd like to play around with creating some different maps using some of the existing maps available as starting points to save a lot of the initial work?

The only way is to open the maps from the [maps page](http://warlight.net/Maps.aspx) and use Send Feedback to ask the map creator for their SVG. This is by design - map creators own their maps and it isn't appropriate to use their map without permission.
