I do not like hopping into a game before I know the settings. I do not always want to create the games as I sometimes like to try what other people think is fun.
Many times I try to look at a map I never played before, or review the settings before I can join but someone else joins before I am done.
Also sometimes my color is already picked, I go to pick my new color, and by time that happens others have already took the last seats.
I think 30 seconds would not hamper starting the game, but would at least give someone a chance to see if they want to play with the chosen settings. It may even cut down on the whining when someone finds out after they joined, they do not like the settings.
Also, if this is limited to one reservation per player at a time you will not get someone reserving a seat in all open games.
Anyone like this idea?

I wouldn't mind having the option, but I just wouldn't turn the option on for the games I make myself.

Knaeve, do you mean you want to make it so others can't briefly reserve a seat in your games to confirm settings? Or simply that you wouldn't use it for your games?

As someone who checks the Open Games tab frequently, I would love this option. I've gotten to know a couple of the regular game creators, so I am normally okay to jump into those games more often. That said, if there's only one spot left in almost any game, I won't take it. Too much chance for a 5% offensive kill rate game or Multi-Attack, or whatever odd setting that you don't get a chance to look at if you are the last or next to last person to join.
I've missed out on some really fun looking games because I was checking the settings. Also, the last person to join games I am in will frequently surrender first turn because they didn't get a chance to see the settings before reserving a spot.

i don't mind other people using this idea.
i don't feel the need for me to use this idea because all the games I make personally are straightforward with no weird settings.

Knaeve... that is understandable. But at the same time, how would everyone else know that you only make straightforward games? And making it an option completely defeats the purpose since those looking for easy wins or throwing in twists could more easily hide their doings.

I like this idea. I can't tell you the number of times I haven't gotten into an open game because someone else took the seat while I was looking at the settings. I would add that you should be able to tell when someone else has reserved a seat so you don't waste time on it yourself.

How about you only get to reserve one seat per, say, 15 minutes? I like the idea in general, but I'm concerned about trolls who sit around reserving just to screw with people.

I think the reserving only one seat at a time, and only being able to reserve for about a minute would solve that.
The idea is you are looking for a game... so you don't want to limit how many times you can look. The first seat you reserve may have 100 bonus for Alaska, so of course you decline that reservation and look at a different game.

I would think he could almost use the invite code which you need to accept.
The only new part would be to add a one minute timer.

Nudge, the problem that Yeon was trying to solve was something similar to...
Troll A is trolling Player A..
Player A makes Open Game A, say ffa 4 members
Troll A reserves seat 4 for a minute.. then reservese seat 4 for a minute, then researves seat 4, then *spam, rince, repeat*
allowing them to be repeated instantly will allow trolls to harass players with a built-in system, thus creating more claims for fizzer to handle.. having a delay, 5-15 minutes w/e, would cause this to be practically removed, while still having the system implemented..

Still, Nudge has a point. If you reserve a spot, find some settings you don't like, then unreserve it, you shouldn't have to wait 15 minutes before reserving a spot in a different game. Especially when the problem Perrin's talking about can be solved by limiting reservations to once per game. With a long enough countdown, I don't think there's any good reason to allow re-reserving.
