There use to be a lifetime membership option, but then it was removed because it wasn't getting enough revenue or something like that :(

Membership used to be quite cheap. I have 5 accounts with permanent membership for that reason. I think the switch to temporary membership probably led to more overall profit, but it also definitely caused some people who'd buy a permanent membership but wouldn't pay every month to just never pay at all.

@Benjamin628 You can´t compare things that are by essence rather different. And do you really find that Warlight membership offer broad exclusive "member things" - not exactly. And yeah, the Lifetime membership was quite cheap - but somehow it probably did not brought in enough revenue, and if you have almost equally same amount of player who are willing to pay a little more, then obviously it is a way to go.
Second aspect is that if your player-base is growing with small pace as in caseof Warlight, just only 10-15k new registered accounts per month, then you have rather stable players and eventually you have X% of players with lifetime membership and (1-X)% who does not care about it all. You do not want to end up empty handed after all.
Also with Unity 2017 shift, at least Fizzer has in mind giving a new image and maybe more advertising to bring in new players. Lifetime membership in early years of development is like venture investment: "Higher return for higher risk" - in Warligh terms, you may get lifetime membership, but no one grants you that the games will last, but if it does you have a valuable asset in your account.
