doubting a totalitarian state's future makes it unstable.

None of them were stable; the USSR and Fascist Italy succumbed to political revolutions in short time. Hitler assigned his subordinates to conflicting and overlapping positions to intentionally keep the state unstable and prevent his overthrow.

When your legitimacy is derived from the whims of the people and subjective sentimentality your party will inevitably fall from power.
