I need help. (I used the API to make this.)

But in all seriousness, are there any rules saying players aren't supposed to pull this kind of stuff? I feel bad for adding this map as "Pending Public," as I did not really create the map. (Or did I?) What should I do with the map?

I probably will not do something like this again. I certainly have no intention of spamming 3.2K maps all over WarLight.

Well, i can see a use for this map :D

Oh no what have I done!

Edit: I could literally create all 50 states in a matter of a few hours, probably less. Naming is the only problem; which would take much longer.

there's no rules against map spam, so afaik nothing is "too much" as long as it fits the guidelines. There are several maps here that are just copies of each other.

I don´t think 8 to 12 variations of a kind would hurt someone. But if they all are 1-bonus territory than rather stick with few. If you can pull out 2-6 territory, randomised bonus maps, then go for it and vary the territory size 600 to 3200 range, then we all could find something to play on. This map is just overkill!

You are not the first one to create such an algorithm. I created a algorithm to generate random MME like maps. This is a reply from Fizzer about programmed, random maps:


What's more, is that we advertise WarLight as having "More than 1500 hand-made maps" -- this is one of our selling points. As soon as we allow programmatic maps, that number would jump up a lot, but they're no longer all hand-made. Advertising that we just have a lot of maps isn't very impressive since lots of games have thousands of generated maps, that isn't really special. Of course, this could be fixed as well by separating hand-made maps from generated ones.

It also creates problems for many of our internal systems, which are already buckling under the load of the number of maps we have. Adding many more maps could cause them to break. Of course, this can be fixed too but by now I hope you've seen a pattern that making this work end-to-end would be a very large project, and this needs to be compared and weighed against all of the other features we're working on at WarLight, which means it needs to be scheduled and prioritized against them. Unfortunately, that means that it will be very difficult to get done.

What API did you use? I'm thinking of something similar to this but for a more practical purpose (a "randomized map" ladder where a new map is effectively randomly generated from a base hex map where bonuses and territory values are manipulated to create new maps).
