it means what it is; so far I have only seen Anglo-Germanic countries(UK,US,Germany) have a "you pay rent to your parents"-esque system, pretty much no other eastern cultured country(and I daresay, most western countries that are not anglo-german) have their children pay rent to parents, but we are instead told to do housechores a lot - groceries, cleaning, washing, ironing...

also most parents expect the children to marry and create another family around 30s - you can still stay at the parent house after 30 without rent, but they kinda get a "you need to gtfo and get a life" attitude.

well uh, both of them are right and wrong, mostly wrong. Most turks have a spanish-esque tan mixed with a half-asian half-european look; but there are some browns also exist(mostly in east and taurus) and whites(mostly on black sea and aegean coasts).

Pretty much true for Brazil too, as well as our neighbors. Your parents don't wanna toss you outta home, though they do want you to get a job and stable income. If you leave, kewl. If not, kewl too. No pressure on having you gtfo.

I don't think I've ever seen someone pay rent to their parents, aside from one very particular exception which the person requested to pay not to feel useless and it was not their parents' home, but rather, an apartment they owned and left up for renting.

the important bit wasn't that they pay rent to their parents, it's that they live with their parents. we are expected to move out and be adults long before our 30's. some parents with loser kids who still live at home charge them rent as a sort of compromise and middle ground between living at home and moving out. many don't charge their loser kids anything. that doing chores to earn our keep starts far earlier than adulthood.

TIL brown people are lazy losers.
