I hope all the liberals hoping for Trump's impeachment don't mind the idea of President Pence.

I'm cool with it, but he'll certainly trigger "progressives" in ways Trump didn't.

Honestly, Pence is more politically savvy than Trump. Trump has been fiddling around for the past few months while Pence would have had Health care, Tax reform, defunded Planned Parenthood (the one corporation the left likes and wants to get federal money), and more.

Now that I think about it, Comey should have been fired. Why didn't Obama do it last summer?

He's not panicking. You are hallucinating.

We're 1/4 of the way to the next midterm elections, and Democrats still haven't come up with a strategy beyond calling Trump Hitler and trying to construct a "Russian collusion" narrative.

It's going to be tricky for them when he turns out not to be Hitler--when people look around in a few months and blacks haven't been re-enslaved, Hispanics haven't been mass deported, etc. Trump won't be able to bring all the industrial jobs back, but he doesn't have too--as long as the Rust Belt experiences a slight recovery, its voters will be grateful.

Democrats lack leadership and an agenda. Their only tactic in recent years has been accusing everyone on the Right of muh bigotry, which is wearing thin even among traditionally Democrat identity groups. Past that they've got marginally more responsible fiscal policy and bureaucratic budgeting, on which I tend to agree with them--but that's not an exciting issue that's going to get young people to the polls. Especially in the most recent election the Democrats became very obviously the War Party--but, hey, under HRC, the imperial military would have been totally woke and inclusive!

In comparison to HRC and much of the field, Jimmy Carter would have been a more relevant (and physically healthier) presidential candidate.

Comey was damn good at his job and had broad support for being willing to go after just about anyone. He was a FBI director that didn't put up with anyone's shit. Firing him would've been a bad and overtly political move at any point.

But let's wait and see how this pans out before jumping to conclusions. Congress rarely goes for impeachment against its own party leader without slam-dunk evidence and huge political consequences for inaction. Need disapproval to jump above 60 or at least 55 + incontrovertible evidence of presidential complicity in something patently criminal.

Comey should have been fired. The man is completely corrupt, and there is no Trump-Russia investigation; it's entirely fabricated.

Comey was damn good at his job and had broad support for being willing to go after just about anyone. He was a FBI director that didn't put up with anyone's shit.

He threatened to investigate shillary then shielded her from the law despite obvious mishandling of classified information. We have established that ignorance of the law is not a defense.

The Left hated Comey now they love him. At times the majority of people have hated him. Let's face it Comey is another corrupt bureaucrat from the swamp and should have been canned a long time ago.

Mens rea is not even close to ignorance of the law. An unmet mens rea burden doesn't happen because you didn't know murder was illegal but because there exists insufficient evidence to establish that you acted without the knowledge or understanding that your actions were going to kill someone.

A quick Google search will show you that Clinton was investigated under certain numbered sections of the US Civil Code. The good thing about criminal laws is that they almost always outline the exact planks you need to meet to determine guilt- you can find those fast by searching through the US Civil Code and peeking at relevant case law. (If you want, there's also a few detailed legal analyses of the investigation that you can find, I must note among which the conclusion is apparently universal that there was insufficient evidence to level any charges.) You'll find that the published/known evidence falls incredibly short of meeting the burden to the point that- as the FBI had worded it- "no reasonable prosecutor" would pursue this case.

If you think that at any point it was established that "Clinton broke the law but got away with it" or that Comey defended her in some way, I recommend going back and looking at the actual publications by the FBI, the known evidence, and comparing them with the law. While it was widely reported by certain outlets (CNN comes to mind) that Clinton broke the law, that goes in direct contradiction with the fact on the ground and the facts in the report.

There's not a whole lot of nuance here, really just public illiteracy when it comes to the law. But that's no surprise; 3 out of 2 people are retarded, and that goes double for this site.

Knyte,

Two fairly thorough analyses that supports locking her up, from both sides of the political spectrum:

For the socialists:
In fact, I cannot foresee a situation in which an ordinary employee facing such allegations would be able to keep a security clearance with the types of concerns raised in the FBI findings. ... Clinton’s use of a personal server for classified government email, without appropriate approvals and security, would normally be treated as a serious security violation. Another security violation would be the storage and transmission of classified materials using personal (nongovernmental) means off site.

For intelligent people:
Patently, Hillary Clinton was well aware of (a) the highly classified subject matter of communications that would inevitably be passing through the private e-mail system she set up for State Department business, in violation of statutes and government rules; (b) the fact that e-mails are stored on servers; (c) the fact that the communications facilities and devices used by State Department officials are routinely targeted in cyberattacks by foreign intelligence services and other hostile actors; and (d) the rules for the proper handling of classified information (and potential penalties for mishandling it). Consequently, her mishandling of classified information was knowing and intentional, as well as grossly negligent. Many reasonable prosecutors would salivate at the prospect of taking such a case to court, especially if they knew that Clinton was going to run with a “lack of intent” defense.

No one in her position could have possibly thought that what she was doing was legal. I only had a TS clearance for 11 years, as opposed to her 20+ and even someone as dumb as I knew it was flat out illegal and would never have had the balls to even try to do something like that.

Pulsey said, "I have never met a person who went from anti trump to pro trump, or the other way round."

How about nearly the entire alt-right? I was at their protest outside of the White House a few weeks ago.

knyte said, "Comey was damn good at his job and had broad support for being willing to go after just about anyone."

What about everyone on both sides who repeatedly called for him to be fired, at various points over the last year? There was broad supportive feeling, yes--supportive of the proposition that he'd politicized the office and become a menace. The added element at this stage, and what is drawing criticism, is the Russia investigation and the possibility of obstruction by Trump.

I guess it is better than being screwed right now. However you dont seem to be very smart, so I assume the opposite of your theses should be much more likely.

Comey should have been fired. The man is completely corrupt

why is he corrupt?

obvious mishandling of classified information

obvious, because you say so?

Comey is another corrupt bureaucrat from the swamp

corrupt again. repetition is a good way to make your own twisted impressions sound like the truth. However what do you mean with swamp?

A system of mutual respect and tolerance can only work if it can force everyone to play by the rules.

some may call that society, social agreement or law at some point. maybe there is something going wrong at your place.
