It isn't a virus. If your not sure, you could download Inkscape then scan it using your anti-virus program before you install it. After you have installed Inkscape, you could scan it again.
Your first map should be 100 territories or less; kind of a test to see how you do. If you're curious as to what you should make a map of, make it anything you want. So long as it's not Europe, because I will burn everything you know. Anyway, here's a list of mapless countries if you need ideas:
