I mean the left is doing an awful job at this kind of thing. "Open Borders" is definitely not the solution to this ideology.
I don't know what country you're talking about, but the country at hand in this thread is the UK, where the leftist party is Labour. Labour definitely don't support open borders- in fact, they even accept the idea of Freedom of Movement being abolished after Brexit.
Also, let's not pretend that Labour and the Conservatives bring in wildly different amount of immigrants. From 2003 to 2009, Labour brought in 1.716 million immigrants. From 2010 to 2016, the Tories brought in 1.765 million immigrants. It's not like any party is tougher on immigration.
https://www.migrationwatchuk.org/statistics-net-migration-statisticsAlso "not the solution to this ideology" ??? The Westminster attacks were a half-black half-white ex-Christian- nobody saw that coming, the guy was a madman. This attack was from the son of a Libyan refugee family who came in the 80s (of which every single day was governed by the Conservatives; there was no "left wing open borders policy" that brought this family in).
Of the 30 terrorist attacks in the west, in 2017, only 6 were committed by religiously motivated Muslims. Less than 100 people have died as a result of them. There isn't a crisis. The "actions to prevent terrorism" being employed by the Conservatives are much more harmful than the terrorists themselves.
I really could use the opinion of someone on the left for this issue.... anyone?
1 of 2 groups is at fault because of this. It's either the police force, or the Conservatives. This Salman lad, who committed the act, was well-known by his peers and Imam to be a radical. 2 of his university peers contacted terrorism hotlines after he started supporting suicide bombers, and his mosque's Imam had sent him out, after it was found he was an ISIS sympathiser. He was reported to the police 5 times, and was only put on the "To be looked into" list, instead of the "Holy fuck we need to watch this guy", list. This is because either a) The police force are at fault and he should have been prioritised, or b) There are more dangerous people to be looked into, and the police don't have a big enough budget to be dealing with all of them.
https://nyebevannews.co.uk/when-manchester-met-the-police-federation-warned-theresa-may-atrocities-would-happen-she-said-they-were-crying-wolf-scaremongering-about-terrorism/The Tories have been cutting the police force for years, and even 2 years ago, Manchester's police force told her to reverse it. Perhaps with a bit more money they could have looked into this more. I don't know, though. Either the police force are at fault for not looking into it, or they wanted to look into it, but didn't have the funding. Either way, of all places, the government should *not* be cutting money from the police force.
I have my criticisms of Labour, but don't mischaracterise them, or the "terrorism crisis" that's happening now.
