Strap yourselves in, this post is a long one.
I'm going to break this post up into four sections. 1. commentary on the quality of the live stream. 2. commentary on the suggestions on Captains League improvementsI heard via the stream. 3. Final Predictions 4. Awards predictions.
Live Stream Quality I listened to most of the youtube export to/from work. GOOD FUCKIN SHIT GUYS. Very entertaining. Made my morning commute. The whole time I was listening, I was just thinking about how cool listening to 6 different accents was. Hilarious to hear the mixture of French-Canadian, Irish, Greek, German, and Kentacky. AG, with your boring AF east coast accent, you gotta stir the pot more to keep things interesting in the shit talking sesh ;) Everyone was great, and I think everyone said something witty that made me laugh out loud. But my MVP award for best listen goes to Plat. He did the most shit talking, got made fun of the most but took it on the chin like a champ, and I find his Irish accent hilarious. Say it with me Plat, "THHHing." Let's hope McGreggor KOs Floyd! A special shoutout needs to go to Tacky also for facilitating and keeping the stream going (and being hilarious).
Commentary on Proposed improvements 1. Keep teams in place from year to year *In many ways this would be cool. Its like every year a new team can try to be king of the hill, and it is a chase to for everyone else to try to topple the previous champs Also, there is merit in the consistency. But overall I don't like this idea. I feel it takes away from 3 elements of captains league. 1. Some people join captains league because they want to know where they will get drafted, and want to prove themselves relative to their perceived value. I know there will still be a draft, but it won't be as big, and I feel this will take away from the excitement of the draft. 2. I like the captain's league is finite. If my team were to win, and I get busy/don't want to do it again, I don't want to be pressured to join next season to keep the team together. 3. Meeting new people is probably the best part of captains league. Consistency is nice, but playing with people you normally wouldn't have ever played with far outweighs the benefit of consistency IMO.
2. Make two different captains leagues. Elite and not elite *I don't like this idea at all (for now). I'm definitely willing to reconsider later if Captains league gets huge, but there aren't enough players participating for this to go down as a viable idea. However, I do like the spirit of the idea of getting the less talented players involved more. I think I have a good suggestion to help that out.
Next year field teams of 7. Have EVERYONE play two tournaments. There will be seven 1v1 tournaments that are MANDATORY for EVERYONE to participate in, two 2v2's and one 3v3. Lower tier players get to prove themselves and every draft pick matters more. I love it.
Final Predictions
*Disclaimer. I did not take boot risks into consideration when evaluating, as its too hard to gauge who will boot. I assumed all players would play.
1v1 lineup rankings Not even fucking possible to rank. So much talent and this is so god damn close all around...except poop squad, who is the only team I am going to predict to not get the most points in 1v1s. Anyone else can do it.
IMO, the team games have the most variance, and therefore will be the largest factor in determining the winners.
3v3 Lineup Rankings 1. Exploders (Juan/wakanarai/apollo), -AFAIK, Juan is the best Africa player in this tourney and the only one to my knowledge with 3v3 Africa experience. With good teamwork, this team should do well. 2. Space Dolphins (INSIDE/Private Pabse/kyjoseph)- I hear they are practicing. On a complicated template like this, and with a skilled player like INSIDE, the practice should pay off. 3. IRGUERS (Bonsai/Benoit/Patriot)- Benoit and Bonsai should be a good team. Put in Patriot (NWO), who should work well with Ben, and this is a solid team. They aren't ranked higher as I heard Ben doesn't practice, and I highly doubt any of them have ever played 3v3 Africa. Practice isn't highly weighted on most maps, but I am highly weighting it here because of how complicated the template is. 4. All Blacks (Xeno/Phakh/Max)- How much of a team player is Phakh? I heard a rumor he can go rogue. Xeno is legit, and Max is underrated, but a team needs 3 to be on the same page. 5. Lovers (Atom/Johnmd/Love)- I think they might do better than this as they have two known quality players in Love and Atom Elite, but I've got to rank them as low as I realistically can to punish them for having johnMD play 2 games. Wtf is that about? Dude was the last pick in the draft. 6. Poop Squad (MT/Cluster/DrunkenMaster)-This squad just isn't on par with the others. None of these players have proven themselves as much as the other teams.
2v2 Volcano Island Lineup Rankings 1. All Blacks (USA Bitches/Pardon) - The clear favorites. Stacked 2 players. 2. IRGUERS (AG/Fred) - I keep hearing how good AG is. Never seen him play, but putting him up here on reputation. 3. Space Dolphins (ps/rocky1) - Again based on reputation. Despite visible stats, I hear that Rocky is very good, and PS was the MVP of the managers league. Both I hear are good team players as well. 4. Poop Squad (Alexclusive/Kurdistan49) - Based on the skill of both players, this team should be second. But I heard Alex says they don't communicate when they play together. Points knocked off for that. 5. Exploders (Juan/Hunta)- Maybe I should have ranked this team higher, but I'm trying not to be a homer. Also, this team doesn't have the depth of the teams above. 6. Lovers (AI/Belieber) - Am I underrating this team? TWO captains really wanted Belieber. He might be very underrated, but until I see evidence with my own two eyes, I'm going to have to place this team where it is.
2v2 Slumlords Lineup Rankings 1. Space Dolphins (INSIDE/Fort Knoxville) - I know they are prepping for this template, have INSIDE, and chemistry of being in the same clan. 2. Poop Squad (LeMarseillais/cj13) - Have you seen how high LeMarseillais's 2v2 rating is? 3. All Blacks (Usa biches/Kezzo) - Stronger 2 pair than space dolphins, but I rated them number 1 in the last template, so fuck it. Plus, IDK if they are prepping or not. I actually am too lazy to check it out, but I hear slumlords is an odd template that needs prep. 4. IRGUERS (90/aoc)- I considered putting them number 1. 90/Juan/AOC have a tendency to dominate every team competition they get into. No idea how they dropped to 4. This template has the best team competition. 5. Exploders (Smoove/Drizzy Drake) - I'M TRYING NOT TO BE A HOMER! I never considered them being ranked number 1, but this team can win it all. Smoove seemed very excited about slumlords, and I know he can beat anyone in mostly any game. Drizzy Drake is a solid number 2, and both being in FCC, they should have good chemistry. 6. Lovers (AI/JohnMD)- AI is good, but not good enough to carry the team. This is the only squad I can't see winning it all.
FINAL ASSESSMENT The Lovers and the Poop Squad are the only two teams that will not win IMO. It is due to the lack of strength of their team games.
The rest have a shot, and its hard to tell who will win. I'd say the All Blacks have the most top to bottom power. If Plat can win 2 games, and their 3v3 squad can win 3, I say this team wins it all through consistency of high power through the rest of their lineup.
Award Predictions * 1v1 MVP-MOD- He won Guiroma for Div A, and I saw a video on Hannibal at the Gates where he said he loved playing it WR. He has strength on both of the templates he is on. * Longshot 1v1 MVP-Nox- Doesn't always try, so he is underrated. But he is gooooddd. * Team MVP-USA BITCHES. He is a fantastic player and has 2 great partners. He edged out INSIDE as his partners are better, so I expect him to have better results. * Longshot Team MVP -Juan- Dude is a great player. Could clean up on Africa, and if he puts in a solid performance on Volcano Island, he could win this. This isn't really as large of a longshot, but I needed my MVP to be playing in 2 tourneys. He was the last one left. * Captain MVP - Benoit- He is playing in the 3v3 tournament, and I expect him to yield good results for a high contribution. * Longshot Captain MVP - Aura - He has gotten much better recently, and specifically asked to play French Brawl. It's the weakest template also. He could win his tourney. * Best Value Draft Pick for Team Games (substitutes such as Smoove, Le Mars are not eligible)- 90- he should produce really well in an important team tournament. * Longshot Best Value Draft Pick for Team Games -Belieber- Two captains see something in him. The rest of us haven't seen anything. He could surprise. * Best Value Draft Pick for 1v1- Motoki -Xeno is confident he won't boot. If he doesn't he should be a force. * Longshot Best Value Draft Pick for 1v1 - MarkusBM- If he can get 3 wins in that tough tourney, that would be one hell of a 7th round draft pick.
