Got fairly surprised today reading an article about France becoming the nation with the highest soft power in the world, jumping from 5th to 1st, while the US went from 1st to 3rd. Funny enough, since I learned in my French school classes that one of the pillars of the American strenght was it's huge softpower compared to old european powers and emerging nations. Looks like one Trump and one Macron later, that changed lol.

What is soft power though? It's all that's not hardpower (economy, military and demography), so basically all that's cultural, diplomatic, persuation, influence and prestige kinds of power.

Again, I'm astonished that France is the world's most important soft power, and I have no idea if it will hold its soft power for long. I have interest in knowing what are your thoughts on this.

Anyhow, this ranking means nothing. There are some international rankings that base their stuff on true stats, but I forget them. It's unclear what their methodology is without reading a 30 page report hidden on their website that I'm not going to go through.

Even by their own meanings, they must be twisting things. IDK what "engagement" is, and America has always been hated worldwide, doesn't mean it has its "sphere of influence".
