Hello,
I'd like to ask you guys who would be willing to take my membership challenge (a best of 5 Strat. 1vs1). Anybody interested?

A while ago there were a few challenges like that. Basically the challenger upgrades him/herself to a member and plays a best of 5 series with a member. If he/she wins, he gets a refund...

So in other words, you pay the $30 and become a member so you can challenge an existing member and have them pay you back if you win?
What, exactly, would the benefit be to the existing member? I lose and have to pay $30... I win and I get nada. Wahoo.
Wouldn't it make more sense for two non-members to make such a challenge?

When it was done originally, it was intended to bring more competition onto the newly formed ladder. I don't think anyone is overly worried about that anymore what with all the new talent joining recently.

Yes, Richard, it appears to not make much sense. But this type of challenge existed in the past (maybe before your time), so don't be so quick to shoot it down.

It was apparently before my time.
And just because it happened doesn't mean it made any sense then either! I still say it makes more sense to have two proficient non-members participate in such a challenge.

Back then, the challenge was held by top ladder players (I believe it was Eitz, but maybe i'm remembering wrong). Beating these players in a best of 5 is very very difficult.
I think it stopped after Gui won his membership that way.
