What's a "dangerous book"?

Banned books are dangerous books.

By way of extension if a book contradicts an idea which enjoys wide acceptance with persuasive and truthful arguments, then it is dangerous to those who might wish that you would not read it.

Books are banned because someone thinks that they will corrupt you with some dangerous notion. I would argue this even extends to the many books that have been banned because of what is called obscenity.

There are books, it could be argued, which materially contributed to the fall of governments, or in other cases have given a significant boost to the spirit of those in opposition. George Orwell's books Animal Farm and 1984 as well as Solzhenitsyn's the Gulag Archipelago are examples which come to mind.

And there are books which by the force of their rhetoric might persuade you that something which is false is true. I am enough of an advocate of free speech to think that books that I do not approve of aught not be banned. In the United States notwithstanding the existence of the explicit protection granted by the Constitution there is a history of censorship by the government of the press. The question of whether such actions are warranted and if so under what circumstances is a matter of the greatest importance.

My favorite book on censorship is Ray Bradbury's science fiction novel Fahrenheit 451.

Before Bradbury's death he was interviewed by François Truffaut concerning the genesis of the novel.

I've read a dangerous book once, it was about killing people, oppressing nations and escpecially women. Women are treated as slaves and...and while i am at it, it glorifies war against the sub-humans and promote killing kids and general mayhem and chaos.

Hoppe is one of the few sane anarchists. I suggest DEMOCRACY: THE GOD THAT FAILED.

LIBERTY OR EQUALITY is a similar book and it basically shows how democracy and public ownership strips people of all their rights.

On the contrary, knowledge is extremely dangerous. That's why dictators throughout history sought to limit it by book burning. Without knowledge, education, and intelligence, why are only human. A basic Civ game without any of the DLCs. Men like Stalin and Hitler understood this.

I would highly suggest reading Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, the collected works of John Locke, and the diary of David Plouffe if you want some eye opening reads.
