Coke though, like, wut? Why the hell would I say I wanted Coke if I wanted Mt. Dew? I just don't get in what context it'd ever make sense to refer to all soft drinks as Coke.
The closest I'll ever do that is asking a restaurant if they have coke or pepsi rather than asking them what soft drinks they have, and then ordering mountain dew if they respond pepsi. That's not because I consider Mountain Dew to be Pepsi, it's just that I know any restaurant that has pepsi is also going to have Mountain Dew.

Except coke isn't that overwhelmingly popular even.
It amounts to roughly 42% of all soft drink consumption. It is the best selling soft drinks, Pepsi is only 30%, and Mountain Dew is the top non-cola at 7%, but it's not like Coke has a 80-90% market dominance.
