That's not what the issue is. If he got Ollie's permission (which he didn't) to make an improvement on the map, and he said so in the map description, no one would mind that it was a copy. Many mapmakers (including myself) have done that before.

The issue lies in the fact that Ollie worked long and hard on that map, only for someone to plagiarize it without getting his permission, only to then deny that he plagiarized it.

That's what has everyone so pissed off, not the fact that it's unoriginal.

Permission? You don't own any maps you do to WL, nor should you and you don't morally need permission. And it was quite transformative. Almost all maps are plagiarisms of something anyway, but noone cares unless it's a WL player.

However it's just good practice to list your sources for stuff.
