How do I get text to register on my maps? It appears on my svg, but disappears once uploaded

select the text and go to the Path tab and select Object to Path

Bane's directions turn each symbol into it's own path, which makes them show up in Warlight.

After doing so it's often useful to select all letters and combine them again (ctrl+k). They will still show up in Warlight, but for some reason they will take up much, much less data. If you have a map with a lot of text, combining the text will help stay under the 2 mb limit.
