Turkey is a country of religious zealots

Firstly, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gezi_Park_protests The younger generation aren't as religious, especially in urban areas. Expect Turks to get more secular. Erdogan can meddle with the education system, but not the internet.

Secondly, I'm surprised you're complaining about "religious" zealotry. That's awfully rational for someone who I'd expect to say "radical muhzlims". Is Jim a secularist as well as a leftist? How progressive can he get!?

When was the last time he sighted the Wall Street Journal, Fox, Brietbart, or anything remotely center-right and took the source seriously?

Why should any sane person take this utter bullshit seriously? Breitbart recently showed Lukas Podolsky vacation pictures on a jet ski - with the headline: *Spanish police crack gang moving migrants on jet skis*

the first three lines on Wikipedia about Breitbart News:

Breitbart News Network (known commonly as Breitbart News, Breitbart or Breitbart.com) is a far-right[6] American news, opinion and commentary[7][8] website founded in 2007 by conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart. The site has published a number of falsehoods and conspiracy theories,[9][10][11][12] as well as intentionally misleading stories.[13]

However, the very first post prove that you have already your far right brainwashed opinion. Btw. there is no connection between those two statements:
[1]I don't believe that drone strikes create terrorists. [2]There were terrorists long before drone strikes and there will still be terrorists after drone strikes.

I thought the Far Right was muh Neo-Nazis but Andrew Breitbart was a literal Zionist! Where is the consistency? Is the far right suddenly a bunch of pro-Israel Zionists? FOX, NBC, and CNN all work for AIPAC. They're all Zionist-backed media corporations. And Wall Street Journal, Fox, Brietbart are all corporate news.

Ranek's post is entirely ad hominem. How about you show us how wrong those sources are by attacking the argument in question. Then the accuracy of those sources would naturally be brought into question.

In regards to Erdogan, I think people supported him because of stability in Turkey compared to its neighbors- essentially, legitimacy. Political legitimacy is a very valuable thing in the Middle East in the minds of politicians- without it you might find yourself hung like Saddam, murdered like Gaddafi, or publicly shot dead like Anwar Sadat. Leaders that bring stability *relatively* peacefully (vs. Hussein-style genocide) tend to be more popular and legitimate amongst the public.
