How do you write on a map?

I want to add a key to categorize some bonuses. I've written words. But when I save the SVG and upload it to WL, the words disappear.

Below the 3 bonuses in the sea I want to write:

Maritime
Bonuses

Below the 2 bonuses in the sea I want to write:

Zhou Dynasty
(Center)

I 'selected' (with the arrow) the text and did the object to path trick. I then highlighted the words and did the object to path trick. I then 'selected' the words (after highlighting and doing object to path) and did object to path. No words.

In total, I tried the above three tricks (independent of each other), saved, and uploaded (three times, one for each). No results.
