'Scuse my ignorance (I had no notion that WZ was coming or WL was going until I logged in yesterday evening and saw the change!) but I lost the preview map option.
In WL you could click an open game and have a browse of the map to help you plan, or at the very least, let you know what you are getting yourself into.
That option seems to have gone or has been buried under some non-intuitive, and I am sad to say, garish-looking UI.

You're looking for Settings -> Full Settings -> View Map?

Ah probably. Thanks.
But case in point: previewing a map is not a setting, nor is it a 'full setting'. It is a view that probably ought to be accessible from the lobby. After all, there are icons to show "Can attack-only or transfer-only", which probably is useful to know in like <1% of games, but finding crucial info like the map itself is buried.
I am trying to reserve judgement until I have given it a fair crack of the whip, but first impressions are that the UI has taken a big step backwards. It has gone from a NASA mission control feel to ugly Fisher Price primary colours.
A mistake IMO, but time will tell.
Thanks for the help!

In my mind, the map is a setting, but maybe that's just the way I look at it.
I agree with you though, it should not be under Full Settings.
Thanks for the feedback.

Hi
Yeah setting (choosing) the map is clearly a setting from the point of view of the person setting up the game.
But I am talking about previewing a map, which is functionally very different.
Indeed, as a player, I can already see which map has been selected. The games list shows both the map name and a thumbnail preview of the map, so by this point, seeing which map the host has selected is already a given.
What is then not abundantly clear is how to find out about that map. How big is it, how many territories there are, how well it has been rated etc. That is not a setting of the game, but an artefact of that particular map. That is to say, the map itself exists regardless of whether it has been selected by the host, so being able to see that map without navigating to settings -> full settings seems odd to me.
