I would rather see what the desktop sizing and then have to zoom in/out as needed. Also, mine don't even stretch all the way out on the right. Basically, the 1st screenshot is way more useful

EDIT: nitpick, but It would be more satisfying if Recent Blog post and Notable forum post's boxes had the same length. Even if you just added empty space to the bottom to make the boxes have the same height.
