I have played in 2 QM games. The first had a boot time of 30 hours. The second had a boot time of 3 minutes. If there was something indicating a difference in the two games, I missed it.
How can I see the boot time before I join? Where can I learn more? I could not find a wiki page on it.
Thanks.

If you had ticked "invite me to MD games" boot time is 30 hours. if not, boot time will be 3 minutes (+banked time, if any) which is real time game.
Before joining, checking or un-checking that option will make you to choose either MD or RT respectively.

Thanks. So if I want to play MD, I just sit back and wait to be invited?
And the Play Now button is for RT only?

Yep, exactly (assuming you have the "invite me to multi-day games" box checked)

Speaking of boot times, would it be possible to change the settings of the LD templates?

MME Commanders LD No Cards is one of the first templates unlocked, but it's extremely difficult to play it on a 3-min boot time, even with the banked time.
Twice, I reached more than 30 armies per turn on this template and it became a race against the clock, not against my opponent. The second time I actually ended getting booted because I wasn't fast enough to move all my armies. I'm not the least experienced nor the slowest Warlight player, so I can only imagine how difficult playing it must be for relatively new players.
I haven't played Multi-Attack MME Light Fog LD but it might have the same issue.

I think it would be better to either remove those templates from the beginning of the QM list, or to be more generous on the boot time.

Adding to what Rak was talking about, Fizzer, would you consider adding separate template settings for real time and multi day?

There are a few templates (especially the LD ones) which I enjoy playing on multi day but they are just not suitable for real time games, due to the length of time it takes to do all the deploys and moves. I still want to play LD templates on multi day though so it would be great if there was an option where I could choose to play them on multi day but not real time.

You could just turn them off before you join in for a rt game. Its maybe not ideal but it would work.

Regarding Rakleaders question I agree. I made a few days ago a post with the same request. I nearly got booted when i hitted commit and discovered i forgot to deploy 1 bonus. I think it would not be so bad to have consistency in the boot times anyway. I have seen 3 min with 5 banked, 5 minutes with 5 banked, 5 minutes without banked time as well.

+1

Quick can mean the quick game creations/pairings not necessarily the pace...

The new QM feature seems great success, but I think would be much better with some pace corrections:
  • The template specific (e.g. LD games) paces in real time games (as mentioned above)
  • The standard 3 days boot time for QM multiday games
I am sure that there are players who more like this shorter boot time, but the 3 days boot time is used in ALL the other multiday games, and I am sure that the majority more like the 3 days boot time than this shorter one (with 3 days boot time would be much more players in the QM multiday queue imo)

Uhh, why is treasure map's boot time just five minutes with no bank? I would prefer it to be 3 mins + 5 bank.

RT templates take the boot times submitted with the template itself so if you add a 1 minute direct boot with no bank the template will use that. For MD it always defaults to the 30 hours boot timer.

I've been playing the QM MD for quiet a while now and actually start getting used to the boot timer. Just taking my turns in those games every day about the same time (except for the weekends).

I agree.

Possible solution: Buy a membership and use the auto pilot.
