I am new to this game and have lost every game I have played so far. I am a strategical thinker but it appears that most of the players know something I don't.
Please give advice to all of the new players on this thread.
Thank you, God Bless!

You have played 5 games, and all 1v1. I recommend you to play in teams, so your teammates can give you advice during playing.

1. Try not to boot right at the boot time, wait for double it if you've got the time. ALOT of players get really PO'd about that.
2. In a team match doun't surrender just because your (just you, not your teammates) doing bad. You can still make it or break it for the win.
3. Listen to what others have to say, especially if they have more experience then you.
4. ALWAYS check the settings in a game before you play it.
5. Be kind, courteous, and don't be a troll. (Sigh, Quadaffi)
That's all I can think about right now without going into strategy, but if you invite me I wouldn't mind playing a few Multi-Day games with you.
(Real-Times work too if you catch me when I'm on)

Just sent you a game invite but I see it was not necessary given your limitations.
Cookie, if you want to add me to your invite list and challenge me to a game on your return I will gladly play and give you some pointers. I am far from an expert at this game and am merely a mediocre player but should still have some good pointers for you.

I don't boot people either. Unless it's RT, then you can only wait so long...

Read this:
http://pdfcast.org/pdf/europe-3vs3-no-cards-strategy-guide-1
It is specifically for europe team games, but the tactics section and expansion section should be easily applicable to almost all games.

My mom will let me challenge VaporX to a multi-day game. I will not use fog so that VaporX can see what I am doing and give me pointers.

Sounds so wrong.
Perrin, apparently mom didn't like the sound of you or I.

One important way to learn is to watch the history of a game after you've finished playing it- pay attention to how fast you and your opponent add bonuses, and watch the decisive turns closely. Here's a short list of common newbie mistakes:
1. Overreacting. Getting a big stack in the middle of nowhere while the game is lost someplace else.
2. Playing too much defense. You should (almost) always be on the attack. Fortifying borders is usually a losing move.
3. Not attacking with enough men. You should attack to win.
This is a highly simplified list of course, but I hope it helps.

I disagree with this. Only attack when there ia good chance of winning. Attacking when armies are relatively easy is a death sentence due to the imbalanced kill rate.

make sure to check the legality of the map before you join the game. the cameroonian police are brutal, and they really go after people who break copyright laws.

"you should (almost) always be on the attack" combines with "attack to win"- I'm not suggesting that all your men should attack every turn, just that you should (almost) always be expanding somewhere. Newbs often gain a nice bonus and promptly start fortifying the borders, rather than expanding.
