On Feb 8, shooting started between the SDF (a mix of Kurdish and Arab militias) + embedded US special forces vs SAA + Russian mercenaries. This is the first time Russian and US forces have shot at each other since Vietnam.

My theory is that Russians are actually pretty terrible soldiers and the only reason they have such a reputation is because they can always run away, hide and wait for the Russian winter to do the work for them.
But there is no winter in Syria. There is fighting all year round and they have no strategic depth. So on an even playing field the Russians are actually pretty shit at fighting.
