Newbee question: difference between Cities and Warlords: 2012-02-14 02:21:16

Just wandering about this website, and just played a few single player games; (Still not beyond "SinglePlayer-Level 3)

I am just a bit confused about some basic keyword, perhaps my english is not good enough...

Q1: Can someone please explain the difference between Cities and Warlord.

As I understand they provide some startingpoints possibilities. When I click on the distributions I can see that there are more Cities than Warlords, but some are both, and some are neiter... it's a bit confusing as I don't know what they excactly are. And when they are used as starting points, and which one is finally used... and why.

Please provide a description for all the used keywords per single keyword.

Q2: The same thing for 'nudge' and 'boot'; my guess is that 'Nudge' is an email notification for a multigame(saying: hurry up), and 'Boot' is a (voted?) kick-out from that game (right?)

Q3: "Singl Player Challenge levels" will be unlocked after "Singleplayer-Level 3"?

Greetings, Marchello (the Netherlands)

Q1 - Warlords distribution is one territory fro each bonus, while cities is all-but-one territory from each bonus

Q2 - yes, but there are 3 kinds of boots with separate timers. Vote, Direct, and Auto. taking all, one, and zero people to initiate each boot respectively

Q3 - correct

All this informaiton and more is in the wiki if you visit the help section

Hi Marchello,

Q1: In warlords distribution, one territitory in each bonus is available for your starting point(s). With this setting, players don't usually start with a bonus, and don't usually start with territories that touch the enemy.

In cities, only one territory in each bonus is NOT available. This setting gives a lot more freedom like full distribution, but you can't get an entire bonus before the game starts. You can also set the 'cities' to have more armies than the other territories.

Q2: You are correct.

Q3: After you beat Level 3, there are 3 more challenges for you to beat. Europe, Crazy, and Insane. Good luck!

in a 1v1, or a larger game with only two players remaining, vote-to-boot = direct

Regarding Q1, please be aware this is designed for maps where every territory belongs to (at most) one bonus. At some point, people started making maps with different "levels" of bonuses:

  • small ones - easy to conquer, so you can get a little bit of extra income quickly
  • medium ones - usually consisting of a bunch of small ones, takes a lot more work to conquer, but also worth considerably more reinforcements
  • (and sometimes even) large ones - by the time you get one of these you've probably already won, you probably don't even need the extra reinforcements you get for these to completely crush your opponent

The games logic doesn't handle "Cities" and "Warlords" very nicely on maps with multiple levels of bonuses. Don't worry, it won't crash or anything, but the territories available as starting locations can be a little weird.

Q2 - yes, but there are 3 kinds of boots with separate timers. Vote, Direct, and Auto. taking all, one, and zero people to initiate each boot respectively

Just to clarify:
The timers can have different lengths, but all of them start running at the same moment.
And, of course, "Vote" takes all-but-one (the person being voted about) of the people still in the game (people already booted, surrendered or defeated don't count).

Wow, those replies came faster than expected; thanx all!

Q1: Oh ok! So that's all about the first move (and thus army distribution)...
(Guess I was thinking in too complex ways: Something like attributes in a castle-risk-gone-bad variaty)

Q2: Seems as needed, but hopefully not often(?)

Rest is babble...

Yeah well I tried that already via: http://wiki.warlight.net/

City:
There were no results matching the query.

warlords:
1. Random Warlords and Random Cities
2. Initial Territory Distribution
Because they are talking about distributions, and not what those Cities and/or Warlords are.

Now I know, and it makes sense. In this newly learned paradigm it now seemes like a stupid question.

But for future newbees, I would still like a keyword-list.
In those cases simply stating: "This is a name given for an initial Distribution".

Again: many thanks, and hopefully see you in battle soon.

It's a Wiki, anyone can edit it, including you! Why don't you create (a start of) a keyword-list? Since you're still new, you can tell (much better than the people who've been here for ages) which keywords need explaining and, just as important, explain them without using three other keywords!
Don't worry about making mistakes; just post on the forums when you've got something and I'm sure someone will be available to double-check what you wrote.

I just updated and provided some useful information on this.. It's my first time actually editing a Wiki, so I don't expect it to be an epic update, lol

Keywords "city", "cities", and "warlord" pages are redirected to "normal_distribution" on wiki.warlight.net
Thus these keywords can now be found.
I think a seperate keyword list would be overkill.
Thanx for the suggestion RvW.
