For the past 2 years my parents have been obsessed with their son falling for antisemitism online and they routinely check up on my views of Jews. You are all familiar with my views on the Jews so this is fairly hilarious.

The Moral Panic around the alt-right is reaching obscene levels and I suspect that Millennial parents are especially guilty of this. The easiest way for a rebellious teenager to tick off their millennial parents is to simply say 1488.

Is the alt-right the counterculture? If not then what is the counterculture?

assuming we're just talking about america, yes. the right is the only counterculture. the left isn't counterculture. leftism is propagated by the establishment and socially acceptable views are left views. popular media ex. hollywood, tv shows are saturated with ideology. what's basically the american dream that is presented to people is most intensely opposed by the emerging right (especially neoreaction). that dream is for white people to land a cushy job, to possibly get married in your 30s and have no children, and to achieve high status through money and being a faithful liberal. the right rejects all this and seeks some kind of tradition to participate in, fruitful marriages, and success through building cohesion and longterm stability.

the literature, film, and just general interests of people with unconventional anti-progressive views is very different from the normative culture. people on the right tend to be much more interested in stuff like the study of historical forms of government, military history, military stuff in general like guns, and political epistemology like honestly mapping out the real political spectrum.

the counterculture is highly distinguished by its masculinity. needless to say males are over-represented in the political right being directly adversely affected by gender marxism.

there are left-wing sort of countercultures too like people who openly call for violence - more than the approved media would allow on their networks - and the kind of Bernie progressive left that rightly rejects corporate democracy but you can't draw a direct comparison between them and the right because they are allowed to present their ideas to the public and they have undisputed control over the universities and academia.

I understand that "counter culture" is different than alt culture, the former being a subculture that is not only nonconformist but rebellious; essentially one with political ends. I don't think anyone would dispute that the emerging right is nonconforming and revolutionary in its political thought, its repression and its sort of esoteric aesthetics and media it wants to introduce to normie society (stuff that isn't even necessarily related to political thought).
