A more important topic once in a while.

What are you personally doing to improve the situation?

Do you have easely acessible studies, problems, solutions, news artices?

I will start.
I am
- trying to buy "bio" as long as i have the money
- supporting "Betonflut eindämmen!" in Bavaria.
- have joined LBV-Hochschulgruppe München (man that website is so outdated, shame!)
- talking to the officials to mow less often
and more

I killed a bee in my room yesterday.

looking this up a bit, it seems that air pollution is a cause. I barely drive cars, I walk almost everywhere. I also just try to not use much energy in general - thermostat is almost always off, everything on lowest brightness, etc.

Can't these plants that need pollination be phased out with plants that self-pollinate, or be mechanically pollinated (for some of them)?

Interesting topic, can't wait for the thread to die after 20 posts since need to discuss the latest Trump tweet.

I save energy and land by being a vegetarian. Yes, people often underestimate the effect, but meat production is a huge waste of ressources. Animals eat the food AND THEN convert it to meat, while wasting energy in, for the endproduct, irrelevant ways like keeping the body-warm, movement, metabolism, etc etc. The land cows, pigs, etc occupy, and the energy put into for meat production, could feed ALOT more people with agriculture.

I am also trying to cut down on other animals products like dairies, but havent got myself to that.

Yes, but how else would you convert grass and other indigestible foods to usable food?

Anyhow your whole argument seems to be "folk shouldn't be jewellers" since they could be mining instead.

Feed it to bacteria. They can digest cellulose, while animal herbivores, like cows, cant. They are not needed to convert grass to for humans digestable food.

I use honey instead of maple syrup for waffles and pancakes. The more pancakes I eat, the more honey I buy, the more the market has an incentive to solve the bee death crisis.

This is also why I've started sprinkling ground up rhino horns as part of steak seasoning.

Cata Cauda, here's something to ruminate on. Cattle can digest grass and other plant matter which is indigestible for human beings. See the following:

No, the article says exactly what I wrote before: Cattle cant digest polysaccharides like Cellulose, but the bacteria in their gastrointestinal tract do that for them.
Hence we could safe alot of ressources like energy, time, and land, by simplying feeding plant material to bacteria, or fungi in combination with artifically synthesizes enzymes, and would get the same result.

The link below is to the Colony Collapse Disorder page of the Agriculture Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. There are a multitude of links to articles dealing with the many topics related to pollinator decline. In the U.S. honey bees are not native, nor are the types of plants which they pollinate. Something like a third of the food we eat is dependent on bees for pollination. There are other pollinators but they can not be controlled like bees can. So, the health of honey bees as a whole is important.

A friend of mine is a bee keeper. She has a large, multi acre, tract of land where she has her hives. Being an organic gardener she is generally opposed to the use of pesticides. This may have some bearing on the good health that her bees have enjoyed to date. The fact that her land is not adjacent to other farms is probably more to the point.

The EPA page is also of interest.

Cata, a cow without its normal bacterial population in its gut is a dying cow. It is natural to cows for their comensal or maybe mutalistic bacteria to do the heavy lifting in the digestive process. I imagine that has been true for as long as they have existed. Arguing that because the bacteria do work in the cow's gut, that they don't digest cellulose, is akin to saying automobiles don't atomize fuel because fuel injectors or carburetors which are an integral part of the machine do that work.

I am not opposed to what you propose. But the U.S. is not Austria. The U.S. has vast regions of semi-arid land that is well suited to raising cattle on, while not being well suited to other uses.

Wait why are you feeding the grass to bacteria? What good does that even do? At least feeding the grass to cows means you get something to eat
