If that's true, then it doesn't matter which ratio you use, as long as you are consistent.

Same ratios should only be applied when bonuses are of equal size and complexity and have a comparable number of connections.
A bonus with only two or three inbound connections is a lot easier to defend than a bonus with a dozen connections.
A bonus, where all inbound connections lead to the same one or two territories is a lot easier to defend than a bonus where all territories have inbound connections of their own.

It's also generally a good idea to scale the ratio. Larger bonuses (which are harder to finish and harder to retain) should have a slightly better ratio than smaller bonuses. In Medium Earth, the small bonuses are 3:4, while some of the larger ones are 5:6, 5:7, or 6:7, which is slightly better.
