for a wile i have wondered about micronations like sealand,liberland,molossia and many more. i just want to see what you think are they real or not.

What do mean they are real? Define "real".
- If real in the sense of existing. Yea, they exist all. You cannot know something that does not exist. Even if it just in someones mind.
- If real in the sense of a state or country (the english term "Nation" is cancerously inaccurate). Sealand more so than the others. It has a territory and not just claims lands without enforcing theese claims like most of the others. About nomatic ones i am unsure. There are most likely some Mongol or Khazhak kids with weird ideas, lol.

Is Taiwan a country? The UN does not recognize it to be a sovereign state. Yet it has at least 21 million citizens.

Taiwan ain't a microstate. Plus Taiwan being a country is still a political issue that about a billion people at least woukd answer with no.

While I am aware of the nuance I'll make my argument very simple since it's a risk forum. Basically a sovereign state is a state that could rely upon a big portion of its population to militarily defend it, and could rely upon that population to side with it rather than any other faction that could emerge from within or outside of it. The state does not have to have an official military as emergency militias could be assembled. Basically, the population has to be psychologically unified because of national, economic, etc. ties.

Country is just a de jure classification of states by the globally powerful but as everyone knows things written on paper mean nothing in politics.

The problem is it isn't clear if lines drawn on the map match political reality until war breaks out. The true loyalties of man are only revealed in war.

legal jargon is irrelevant, if a country cannot defend itself from conquest it doesn't exist.

thx for all the feed back also i disagree with you Wednesday because if not being able to defend its self for conquest means that a state never existed then by you logic the romean empire was never a state as it was conquered by the Ottoman empire.

Rome died with Augustus, the ''empire'' which fell to the Turks was a fossil.

My primary point was that once a state is unable to defend itself it is no longer sovereign, it may continue to exist as a legal entity but it only persists as such at the enjoyment of its stronger neighbors.

Also the more correct term is micro-states, a nation is a spiritual unity. A state is something which exists either on paper or as the concrete expression of a nation.
