In South Korea, it is a commonly held belief that an electric fan can cause death if it is blowing on you overnight in a closed room.
To prevent “fan death”, the Korean government’s Consumer Protection Board urges everyone to leave a door or window open and use the oscillate function or a timer that automatically shuts the fan off. They also list fan death as one of the top five fatal summer accidents.

its difficult for me to believe on this,
do anyone here knows the exact reason behind “fan death” .
as its almost all the time when my fan runs overnight in a closed room [in summer], and i am still alive.

What's the Warlight connection?
This is a widely held belief in South Korea. It has no basis in fact.

Not that I believe this, but

proves nothing; by that argument smoking is safe as well (just find an 80-year old who's been smoking his whole life).

Some other remarks:
- Like bloodnok says, why are you posting this on the WL forum?
- Your username is, at the very least, very misleading (unless you want me to believe Fizzer made you a moderator, which I would have trouble believing if he told me himself).
- An excerpt from your profile: "Previously known as... Alpha (2/20/2012) °√osτrσ (1/31/2012)". No reason, just wanted to spare other people the trouble of having to look it up.

This topic shouldn't be on this site in the first place, but now that it's there:
It's is a Korean fairytale.
In order for you to choke, the fan would either have to use oxygen or bring harmful chemicals into the air.
This is why smoking is harmful. By smoking, you inhale harmful chemicals that destroy your lungs, narrow your arteries, and may cause cancer.
However, all a fan does is transform electrical energy into kinetic energy (moving blades) and warmth (resistance), you choking is not going to happen.
Basically, the only way I can see a fan may harm you is when chips of heavy metals come into the air due to the warmth. But in that case, you wouldn't choke, you'd get so-and-so poisoning, and then an open window wouldn't help you.

It's a forum, the topic belongs here if someone wishes to discuss it. And if you'd like a connection, I'm sure we have Koreans playing WL, so there.

@D&I They wouldn't be around; my South Korean buddy from league says there's a big Starcraft II tournament going on right now. I won't see him for like a week.
