Isn´t in nuisance to check template settings?: 2018-07-18 10:49:44

After all these years and still we must put up to this? Fizzer, any chance we get a fix to this?

For example Quickmatch templates. Lets assume I am new player and first time in Quickmatch or I have just reached to my first vote and want to check template settings - what to play and what to vote for (without having prior games played on them yet).

Now to see the settings I must go through the following steps:
1. First click would be under Quickmatch Templates "VIEW"
2. Now yo are sent to "Select players", despite I just wanted to see the settings?!?! Now you hit "Next"
3. "Change settings"
4. Tick "Customize template" and hit next. Now you have finally reached to the end of your journey and can see settings through each settings page. This is rather nuisance to to do this and its easier to read settings on already made game.

Alternative way to see Settings:
1. First click would be under Quickmatch Templates "VIEW"
2. Now yo are sent to "Select players", and add your inactive friends and hit "NEXT"
3. "CREATE GAME" and you can check settings in much better format

In my mind it begs the question, wouldn´t it be easier if just after clicking "VIEW" one could see the settings already in fine format like the game would have already made (same as you click settings in on-going game). It would certainly help new players and alleviate the nuisance of checking template settings. I just can´t understand why I must go through these steps, while it could so much simpler.

Yes, it irritates me too. More generally it would have been better if clicking on a template link simply showed you the settings (with the option to create a game of course, as there already is in the settings pop-up).

That being said, I can't see it being too high on the priority list, as it's not going to stop anyone playing the game.

What kicorse said - there are so many so much more important things to fix.

Hopefully this gets implemented in UJS while it’s still under development.

There are always "more important things to do". And I would as well want 100 other fixes before that.

But from new players perspective and considering the discussion last year of simplifying the game for newcomers. I can´t find the thread, where Fizzer spoke about new registered players and % of them who commit to game is rather low. And this is probably due do fact, that it takes time to understand how the game works.

Its not "Click & Play" for newcomers. After one has finished tutorial (if it still exists here) best place to find games would be Quickmatch. I think it is not very far fetched, that one does not check settings in first games, but soon it is crucial to know not left aside.

The easier one can find information, the less nuisance clicks one has to make should lead to better turnover of registered players. For me this is far the most troublesome point in game design currently, that´s why I pointed it out.

I appreciate the feedback!

Lets assume I am new player

First off, new players don't learn settings by reading the settings list. New players learn settings by playing several games on the template and experimenting. The only people who read the settings panel are experienced players.

Now to see the settings I must go through the following steps:

It sounds like you're talking about the Flash client? I agree, it's difficult to view a template in the flash client. I paid special attention to this when I re-designed that page for the Unity client last year. Give it a shot and I bet you'll see all of your complaints have already been fixed.

I can't speak for anyone else, but it wasn't so long ago that I was new player, and I would always read the settings panel - once I realised it existed, anyway - before joining a game on a template I didn't know. Certainly before creating one.

But it's true that, on this question, the opinion of people who post in these forums isn't the important one.

@Fizzer

Yes, I only play in Flash. Have not checked unity since it came out. I just can´t stand Unity. Gave my feedback when it was launched.

Yes, it is much better in Unity.

Well maybe you play ~10 games without checking settings, but even then I would not call one experienced. Nor when one has 20, 30, 50 games played and by that time one should be aware of multiple options of settings.
