Following the success of the selection of Biomes as the template for Season XXXII, the template for Season XXXIII will be chosen in the same manner.

The process will the same as last time and is broken into three phases.
Phase 1 - The community can nominate templates for the seasonal.
Phase 2 - The template panel will prune the submissions down to a small number.
Phase 3 - Anyone who has completed all 20 games in any one of the last 3 seasonals (Season XXX onwards) will be allowed to vote (no alts). We will resolve votes using the Dowdall system- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borda_count#Dowdall_system_(Nauru)

Please consider the following while submitting templates in Phase 1:

• Quality of template
  
• Finish in a reasonable amount of time
  
• Diversity of settings (WR/SR, MA, fog levels, armies per territory, income cap etc.)
  
• Diversity of maps
  
• Diversity across seasons (i.e. don't repeat previous seasons)

Phase 3 - 31st July, 2018

About seasonals in general:

Template election process

I favor a voting system that lets players vote that played one of the last two seasons in full. The argument
here is that seasonal is supposed to challenge you to play new templates, so the players who take on that
challenge should be rewarded, they are also anyways the ones who really care.
N should not be 1 since this could lead to an ongoing reduction of votes.
As for this initial vote I agree on being more lenient.

Another idea would be to give away/ award seasonals to a curator. Lets say player A has been helpful he can
then receive a scheduled slot for his template of a choice. This should obviously be framed by the same rules
/regulations a template panel would have to abide.
=> interest of the community as a whole
=> playability
Another plus point here would be that the curator could write an introduction to his template, make some polls
as what to choose, who will win etc, basically engage the community.
=> Fizzer/template panel could get a veto to keep egos in check/ enforce legit templates
=> Generally being said a curator should be able to properly articulate why his template should be played and
why its going to be fun.

On the timing

Seasonal templates should be lined up. At least the next seasonal should be already decided when a new
seasonal starts. AND seasonals shouldnt force finish. If seasonals are lined up giving the time to let a
seasonal run out will have less of an impact. In my view a force finished seasonal is way more unsatisfactory
than waiting an extra week or two on the end results. There should be no incentive for underhand tactics.
As reference you can take a look at JVs seasonal or Mikes rant on vacations.
In case of this seasonal one way would be to set up a vote for next seasonal after 15 games, everyone who
played 15 games then is allowed to vote.
Let me repeat, seasonals shouldnt force finish, this is unsatisfactory.

The curator


A curator doesnt own the venue, but has the ability to bring life to it.
He enforces deadlines, brings together a process and or team to determine templates, at the end of the day this is someone who shoulders the responsibility to bring the next seasonal to us at the right time.

I think there is more than one good way to create a good seasonal, and it would be very nice to have punctual seasonals. Many players enjoy them, and they regularly get neglected.

To achieve this you can either institutionalise the process or personalify it.
