What is the reason for such a low timer? Are advertised open games a burden on the server? Are people creating games and forgetting about them?

My guess is that it works like verification for host's activity and interest in games with large amount of players.

when someone creates a game for 10 people (for example. it can be any number of players) a timer will run that you cant see and after a while it wont get advertised in the open tabs anymore as it took to long. But you can as host go to "remove / add player" and move the players around and safe the changes you did even tho you did no changes. that will reset the timer and your game is advertised again.

In the event that an open seat is not filled after too long, it will expire and will no longer be advertised on the Open Games tab. This is a safety mechanism designed to prevent undesirable games from clogging up this area for long periods of time.

Open seats in real-time games expire after 1 hour, and open seats in multi-day games expire after 12 hours. The host can reset this timer simply by pressing "Change Players" and then "Confirm".

It's not even a day long. It's way too short.

Games aren't undesirable, they just didn't fill in time

It makes it a bad experience for all players, but especially new players that don't play quickmatch and aren't in a clan. Having to refill spots is a pain in the butt.

There's another post thatasks why aren't there any mod games. Well, part of it is because of the ridiculously short timer.

Problem is a lot of games, if not most games created by inexperienced hosts (players who don't know what fills and what doesn't) don't fill in a timely fashion.

In fact if it's not Rise of Rome or another popular map chances are it won't fill in a timely fashion unless the teams are pre-arranged.

Nope.

I would go for something like resetting the 12 hour timer whenever someone joins the game.

So if it's gradually filling, it will stay in Open Games tab. Though if no ones joined in a while, it'll still expire.

There's a timer for real time open seats too? I didn't know that. In that case, my bad, real time games are affected by this too

The timer for rt games makes sense to me. If it has been waiting a long time, it increases the likelihood that the game will just be a bootfest. Since you can readvertize it by refreshing the open seats, I think that's reasonable. I think I agree that the MD time is too short though. Something like 3 days would likely make more sense.
