Small Earth. I get it. It's the original Risk map, it's what got us all here. Without it, we wouldn't exist. It's our Jesus Christ lord and savior. But it's time to let it go. First 2 templates in QM on this boring, unoriginal, unbalanced as hell map is torture. Tournaments pop up on this map all the time. Can we just find a different, balanced, small map (hell, make it the same number of territories +/- 2-3 territories).

I remain unconvinced that small earth isn't a gaslight op designed to errode away the newbies sanity; meanwhile Fizzer and the big boys in their ivory towers are playing actually fun templates. Gamers rise up

small earth is fun, and lots of people are in the P/R, so there's a reason its the first templates on QM and insanely popular, altho nostalgia may be a big part of that

I have a very strong dislike for the RTL China template.

Agreed with all of those except for RoR. I love RoR.

There's a rumor that RoR is the ONLY map I play, but that's not true. I also play Duel.

Small earth is OK for entry level, but not with current settings. lotto pick is no good, auto even worse.

I can't stand WR anymore, but it isn't terrible. I get why some people like it, I just don't.

Other settings I hate: multi attack. One reason Warzone is superior to the board game risk is that you can't railroad the entire map (totally unrealistic in war). It is stupid strategically, and also requires you to put in WAY too many commands.

Another setting I hate is random move order. In one game yesterday I lost first move 7 times in a row. I put in a user voice for weighted random move order years ago (your chances are not 50-50 every time, but decrease by %10 every time you get first move). This seems like a no brainer to me. It is OK to have some luck, but coin clips are stupid. It is possible to get heads infinity times in a row, no matter how remote that may be.

Rise of Rome: 0 income, 0 neutrals, 1 random spawn.

The games are almost entirely dependent upon starting spawns. Whomever's starts allow the greatest expansion wins. Almost zero strategy, and just a touch of combat tactics. Really all one does is expand.

Could be worse though, namely.

Rise of Rome: 0 income, 0 neutrals, 1 manual pick.

With manual pick the strategy now switches to countering your opponent's single start. If you spoil his staring bonus, his game is over, as he has 0 income.

If you don't manage to counter your opponent, revert to the earlier strategy and just expand.

It's hard to pick just one, but I'm going to go with anything with the map "Rise of Rome". A decent map that's so overplayed that noone but addicts want to ever see it again.
