Reason three: Sexual activity. It is widely said that circumcision increases the chance of sex.
If there is one thing I learned from US-American media, then that sex and sexual activity is bad, and that you should feel ashamed for having genitals. Its a taboo, and no one is allowed to mention in public, let alone show it. On the other gore is totally okay-ish.
So why is more heretic behaviour the goal?
1. It is really really weird to look at an uncircumcised penis. It looks disgusting and barbaric. Sure, you can argue that cutting up pieces of your body is barbaric but when all your life you have been looking at your own penis and thinking it is normal and everybody around you is also cut up then it looks normal. You cut your nails and hair don't you? Why? Isn't long hair more natural?
No, its not. Cutting your penis is different to your hair, and nails, because those are not living tissue (excluding the root, of course). Cutting your skin is not desireable. There is reason why it hurts, when done without anasthetica. Not to mention that long hair or nails can get in the way for many activities. The are often cut for practical reasons. Cutting your penis is not practical. About the question, which one loooks "weird" thats up to debate. You cant argue about fashion and beauty.
2. There is a significant Jewish population in the United States. 2% in fact. Now consider your options. You can choose to not get your child circumcised and it will have the opportunity to marry 98% of the population or you can have your child circumcised and it will have the opportunity to marry 100% of the population. I am sure that Jews nowadays are a lot more lax about it but they weren't in the past and that is how the tradition started. Why would you needlessly limit the options of your son? There are costs to not circumcising.
That cant be a reason. US-Americans arent well known for their tolerance towards minorities in recent histories. Just look at how you treated/treated blacks.
